Product leaks by design. Requires frequent internal rinsing and air drying to maintain semblance of cleanliness.

The 'essence' model appears to be designed to get you to upgrade, if Philips even makes a version that does not absorb water.
After brushing, there is slimy liquid that accumulates between the brush head attachment and the power stick. Gradually, this slime seeps out the bottom. Gross.
My original sonicare never did this. There was no maintenance required except bi-weekly charging. There was no water seepage. Brushheads did not require frequent replacement.
I understand designs evolve, but usually are an improvement from previous versions.
Do not buy.
Pros: stimulates gums and cleans teeth.
Cons: poor design requires daily cleaning and air drying
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Excellent Design

Received as a gift so we can't speak to the cost but all 4 family members have one and believe it to be outstanding design but can only wonder if a larger brush head would be better.
Pros: outstanding design and ease of use
Cons: small brush head

The brush runs smoothly and leaves my teeth and gums feeling clean and refreshed. The noise level is minimal and replacement parts are easy to find.

I have had a great experience with the Elite model and when I needed a second toothbrush, did not hesitate to purchase the Essence. I am equally please with this model.

Not as good as previous model

This is my second of these Philips toothbrushes. I do not like this one nearly as much as the last one. For one, my previous one would beep every 30 seconds so it really helped to keep track of when I should move from one section of my teeth to the next ... for some reason that feature was removed from this next generation brush. Also, the head/bristles are smaller and I don't feel like they clean as well as the previous model. I will not stop using these sonic toothbrushes because they are so much better than any other means of brushing my teeth but I definitely feel like this newer version is a step backwards. Especially since it was not an inexpensive purchase I expected more.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I love my Philips Sonicare toothbrush. I can't imagine going back to my old routine again.
