I Have a more favorable impression of this case than other reviews reflect. First of all I like the retro style. Reminds me of my old rangefinder case from years ago. The materials and craftsmen ship are very good. The snaps are not a problem and are easy to close once aligned properly. My only complaint is that the piece that fits around the body is not totally flush with the bottom of the camera when I tighten the screw.
The case protects the camera very well when closed and protects part of the body when the cover is removed for shooting and helps reduce scratches. The case also adds some bulk to the grip which is not a bad thing. Some people are critical that the nose of the case is too long. I use it for my zeiss primes without a problem and it is designed to accommodate the larger telephoto lenses. Why wouldn't I want it bigger it he goal is to accommodates various lens sizes. Finally, a cool feature not discussed in prior reviews. is shooting with the cover attached. It's hard to explain but the cover has several compartments that actually extends/telescopes further away from the camera so to get out of the way while shooting. In summary, if you want to take just one lens with you for shooting and want to protect your camera/investment then this case makes a lot of sense.

A case that protects

I am mostly pleased with this case for my A7. It's easy to take the camera cover off and on. Yes the small body cover must be removed to get to the battery or card but its no big deal for me to unscrew it off the body. The case has a good amount of padding inside, especially on the back and this is good when transporting in your car as it insulates the camera from vibrations. It is a durable leather case and protects well. The bottom is a little warped down on each end from the mounting screw but I've seen some of the more expensive cases do the same thing. I would like to see an optional smaller lens cover for the 35mm Zeiss lens.

Very poor design

The case is a very poor design on nearly every level. There is no access to battery or Memory cards or any port door, therefore the bottom half case portion must come off every time the battery is charged, etc.. The case is a VERY loose fit with the 35mm lens.. The lens cover portion is very large, for a future tele zoom I guess.. If you have a compact lens this case will not do a very good job.. The A7r and 35mm 2.8 bounces around inside the case..
The snaps are difficult and awkward, The tripod mount screw in fastener is not recessed so the camera will not sit flat with the half case portion on. The case is a mess really... It is bad in nearly every way possible...

I love the camera, but this case makes no sense to me. It takes your compact camera/lens, and makes it large, bulky, and difficult to use. Even unstrapping the case seems to make the camera difficult to handle - I'm not interested in a case that increases the chance of damage!
I would love to see Sony make a different case that works with the small puck, or FE lenses like the 35mm I have on mine.

When purchasing a mirrorless camera, people value its compact size and light weight. However, this case will make A7/r look like A77. I returned it immediately.

This is a great Idea, I mean it. I do not have a EF 24-70mm so this may fit it!! BUT it does not fit over the EF 16-35mm or EF 24-240mm without the lens hood but you want it to fit over the lens hood anyway. I really do not like walking around with my gear exposed when it is not in use and it is inconvenient to keep putting in and out of a carry bag.THE NICE THING IS the front part snaps off. So when Sony reads this if they can get different sizes, for the different lenses. Way too big for small lenses Voig12mm, 35mm and 50mm, and way too small for the 16-35mm and 24-240mm or Rokinon 14mm. BUT will be great when you are carrying your rig under your arm going through a museum or on a walk about. I have seen lenses stolen right off a camera and the owner never knew it was gone, SO THIS A GOOD IDEA just different size covers!!!!

I want to give it one star but the only reason I'm not is because of the quality of construction and the piece that actually connects to the camera widens the grip of the otherwise paper-thin A7S. I don't care that it blocks the battery and sd card doors because it only takes a second to get it off, but that certainly doesn't help it's case (no pun intended). This thing is huge and only works with 3 lenses. It doesn't fold up, which makes it more of a logistical nightmare than the gear I actually want to take with me! Sony, please tell me what you expect me to do with this thing once I have to take a picture. Should I put it on the ground, wear it as a hat, throw it up in the air and take the shot fast enough to catch it, or just get a buddy to help me load it into the back of my truck for safe keeping until I'm finished shooting? Is it a design piece to only adorn my camera while it's safely on the shelf? Does it double as a cereal bowl? Please tell me which exact, specific purpose it was designed for, because I have no idea.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
