I bought this just over a month ago because I wanted an alternative to cable. I researched several devices and decided to go with the Roku 3. This has been a great purchase. While I do miss live HD cable, the Roku has given me several options to choose from. My best advice is to add plug-ins and get Netflix or Hulu if you don't mind waiting for your show to upload the content days after airing. My only problem with the Roku (which is not its fault) is that all common cable stations (CBS, NBC, Fox, ABC, etc) don't have apps for it in my Alabama area similar to the WatchEPSN which works wonderfully! That would have made this device perfect!
Overall, the Roku 3 is a solid device as a cable cutting option. It saves money on the bills when you use plug-ins for live cable. The resolution isn't always crystal clear but with any streaming product, that is to be expected.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED and it's steadily improving. Eventually, it will become the King of TV entertainment.

In the past month we've purchased two Roku 3 boxes and they both work great. They have all the channels we need and are evaluating whether or not we "cut the cord."

The Roku 3 is lightning fast and provides solid reliable performance. When I watch a program on HBOGO on the Roku, the picture is MUCH better than when I watch HBO live or on the PVR. I love the headphone jack on the remote too, what a great idea! I can't believe no one did that before. I bought a Roku player back when they first were promoted by Netflix. They have improved a lot since then, and they were good then too. I do wish they had not totally abandoned the older outputs like analog audio. I don't have a HDMI receiver in all my rooms yet so I have to use an older Roku, but the older Roku's don't have the Vudu player/channel to access my 100+ online titles. I suppose after my last receiver is upgraded it won't matter, but for now it is less than optimal. Otherwise I am still a Roku fan, and the Roku 3 is a great device that is well priced.

Fast, and easy to use. Great GUI. good video and audio performance
Some suggestions: Keep an analog audio output on the players, even if it is a 3.5mm jack. I like to stream music throughout my home, multizone systems use analog only for secondary zones and I am unable to stream from the roku3 to my other zones. Also, figure out how to output dolby digital in bitstream instead of the plus you use with multichannel.. Great box though! I really like it.

I've had my Roku for a few months now and absolutely love it! I've been watching movies that I had missed in theaters and catching up on TV shows that I had to skip because something else was playing at the same time. It is a wonderful devise with so many options. I highly recommend. I especially enjoy the earphone as I can watch all the episodes of Doctor Who that I want and not disturb my 92 year old mother as she reads sitting right next to me!

I bought this Roku 3 to get rid of my cable bills. Since we don't watch much tv this was a great option for my family. My kids like it the most they can watch there pbs kids shows and other stuff. Glad I bought it.
