A product that actually gets usable updates!

I was fairly satisfied with the Roku 3 I had purchased it actually outperformed a Samsung Smart Tv that was hard wired while the Roku is connected wirelessly.
However I didn't care to much for menu system on netflix it was kind of clutsy.
But voila... a new update changed all that with a new operating system, now I prefer the Roku much more than the smart tv. I may just need to add a couple more of these Roku's to my other tv's. Great product I would recommend to anyone.

A great alternative on Cost of Ownership

have purchased this product mainly because it had the content at a reasonable cost which I had invested in. There are similar products in the market too hence the differentials will be based on the what is available at a reasonable recurring cost. I had Dishnet satellite for International content channels. This was in addition to a cable box from a local provider. I also have a good internet bandwidth. The moment our international channel content at much reduced reasonable rates were made available on this Roku box we decided to switch from satellite to this box to consolidate our bandwidth. Thus avoided duplication of payment while optimizing the bandwidth while reducing the overall cost. It works absolutely great with only issue I found was Roku3's remote uses wifi instead of standard IR or RF technologies normally used by Universal Remotes. My Harmony Touch has some issues in integrating with Roku's remote for the reasons stated above. It works but inconsistently. I had talked to both Roku3 and Logitech tech support to resolve this but even they did not have the proper resolutions. Other than this issue, Roku3 is a great product and helped me in reducing our TV related overall cost. Thank you Roku for bringing our content on Roku platform! Though I have rated 4 stars mainly to provide motivation for Roku to increase their 'Performance Bar' but it really commands 5 stars!

we bought this because we only have basic cable and my husband's retired and loves the tube. He thinks this is too complicated for him to learn, I don't. I also wi sh it could interface with Tivo.

Please improve the USB portion of ROKU, I have 3 TB of movies and I would like ROKU to treat it like a library just like NETFLIX, with categories, pictures, directors, authors, ratings, everything about the movie including a short description, etc... all i get is the title of the movies and not happy with it. Please improve on this. You guys are doing a great job.

Great little item!

I was shopping for something just like this. I didn't even know the Roku existed, I was looking at the Apple TV, to be honest, but I wanted something less expensive or that at least had more features so I held off. My girlfriend got me the Roku 3 for my birthday and it has been great! I use it everyday since my family is too cheap to shell out for cable or satellite tv but I have WiFi. 
The only issue I could say I have is that (only) twice, my Roku 3 reset itself in the middle of me watching something. I checked and it wasn't my WiFi resetting or powering down and it definitely wasn't my power going out. It was late in the afternoon at about the same time both times. No idea what it could've been but in the two months I've had it that's only happened twice, and it was about two days in a row, too. 
That's it. It's got great features and it's so small and handy I can just move it to another TV in the house whenever my family wants to sit together to watch a movie. The remote is a great feature, too! When my girlfriend wants to go to bed but I want to stay up I just plug in the headphones into the remote and I can keep watching without keeping her up! Its great!

Good product, but needs to fix one issue

Roku was easy to connect and worked the first time. Then, I kept getting an error message. There was nothing on the website or in the literature about the error, and it kept appearing. Finally I did a general search and found that there is a connectivity issue that sometimes occurs. After disconnecting and reconnecting the unit to the TV, the problem went away.
It would have been better if Roku explained this problem and how to fix it. Even better if they resolved the issue and sent a patch.
Now the unit works well, and we are happy with it.

Overall a great unit

Gives me access to more content than I could ever watch. Fast streaming speeds and easy to use.
My only complaint, It requires the stereo system to support Dolby digital PLUS to play 5.1 streams. It is not backward compatible thus making my Dolby digital stereo system useless in the 5.1 mode. Get no sound in the 5.1 mode. Must run in the standard stereo mode to get any sound at all.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
