I waffled between the Apple TV and this for a long time. I have had the Roku 3 for about 2 weeks and really enjoy it. Netflix is a kids favorite. I would like to see a Redbox channel with new movie rentals for a $1 or whatever. I don't think this thing does HD either, so would like to see that as well. Once there is an NFL channel, the Directv will be gone. The interface is great and easy to follow.

Cons: Disconnects From Network

Happy, but one caveat

The unit is missing the audio output to feed the audio amplifier. For example, I do not want keep the TV turned on to listen to Pandora. The audio output from the remote is not satisfactory because in this mode it will use up the remote batteries, and it must be connected to the audio cable, therefore negating is primary function that is to be a "remote"!

Once set up, versatile and easy to use

I came close to returning the unit because there were no instructions for pairing the remote to the base unit. I had to contact support for a walkthrough. Once that was done, setup was a breeze, and I appreciated the flexibility and simplicity of the remote. But the pairing should have been an onscreen step. The Roku channels are plentiful, but there's a lot of noise (channels I don't care about) and a better search/filter would have been nice. But all in all? a great product, easy to use, and solid video quality even over wifi (802.11n).
Pros: Simple Controls, Improved Audio/Video, Attractive Design
Cons: First Time Remote Setup

The Roku 3 was something I had been thinking about for a while. I decided to go with the top unit from Roku for the HD as well as for the audio in the remote control. I'm glad I did. I've had the unit about a month and am still finding new channels. My wife falls asleep before me so I plug my headphones into the remote and there is no problem. The stereo sound is great quality (I use top of the line headphones rather than the ones shipped with the Roku). The set up was very simple and Roku walked me through it with ease. It's nice to know that the Roku will not cost me more money and many of the channels offer programming that is free. I highly recommend this.
