We don't have cable; we use Roku to watch TV programs and movies via Netflix and Amazon Instant. We recently upgraded to this model from the XDS. We'd been happy with the XDS but upgraded because some channels were only available for the Roku 3 (e.g., PBS). Setup was easy, use is easy, the remote works way better than before (since line of sight isn't required), and in general it seems to work faster. No complaints whatever; we're very happy with the product.
Pros: Improved Audio/Video, Simple Controls, Fast Setup, Attractive Design, Easy to use

The only draw back I can see is that the volume control on my remote does not work very well... You have to press real hard to make it work. I have 2 in my home and have sent 2 more as gifts. Only 1 Roku 3, the rest are Roku 2.

great product. just wish it could play more video formats in the usb player. Also would be nice to upgrade usb voltage to handle external Hard drives.

Better than expected!

This edition of Roku has been surprising in terms of the high quality of both picture and sound. Biggest improvements over previous models are in the surround sound.
Pros: Much Faster Than Roku Xr, Close To 1080p Quality, Simple Controls, Fast Setup, Superb Picture And Sound

We use it to watch movies, for Netflix. I don't like that you don't have more info on how to use it and I wish my channels were group together by catagories.

Think before you buy

I was very excited to buy the Roku3 but the first one i bought i had to immediately take back the next day because when i used the headphone jack it lagged extremely bad. I could barely use it because it kept freezing up. I returned it thinking i just got a bad one but the next one did the same thing anytime the headphone jack is used. I would have taken back that one but that night my cat chewed the headphone wires in half so then i couldn't return it. I bought the Roku3 because i have a Roku2. I am extremely disappointed because the whole reason i bought the Roku3 is because it had a headphone jack so i could watch movies without disturbing my wife. The good thing about it is that it is much faster than the Roku2. I am really surprised none of the reviews i read prior to buying this mentioned this problem. Other than the headphone jack problem its an overall good product.
Pros: Simple Controls
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
