I chose two years and a half years ago to "cut the cord" with cable tv. Digital TV channels work for me, but I did find myself buying DVD movies frequently to supplement the TV shows. Two+ months ago, I decided to buy a Roku3 after reading reviews about it and its competitors. Setup was a piece of cake: take it out of the box, plug it in, enter my WiFi password using the incredibly easy-to-use remote and I was on my way. The Wi-Fi works great, but I do have to mention that the Roku3 is only about 10 feet from my router, so I'm not sure how the signal would be farther than that. The only downside I have found is that the sound is not as loud as when I watch a TV channel. Not sure if that's my TV's problem with its HDMI port or if it's a Roku itself. Don't get me wrong- I can hear everything ok, I just have to turn my sound up much higher when using the Roku. All-in-all: if you are looking for a device that will give you access to a variety of streaming channels that is simple to use- this is the one to buy!

On my second unit. Moved the 2xd to the den. Now I have the Roku3 . Love the ear buds. Crashed out a couple of times. Had to set up again. Not sure what was going on there? Remote wasn't working one night, pulled one of the batteries out and it started working again. Quit working altogether so I changed the batteries and it's back working great. Don't know if batteries that came with it were weak to begin with but they didn't seem to last long. Maybe the 3 uses the batteries up quicker. Love my Roku especially the quick response time to play,rw,ff,etc

Cons: Batteries Didn't Laslong, Crashed Out Twice

In a desparate search to find entertainment that was not laced with corporate agendas, I tried the ROKU 3. After some online research, I had come to the conclusion this unit was the best you could buy for online content. I, too, was looking for an alternative to cable. Indeed this was $100 well spent. Yes, some channels offered require additional charges, and yes, some channels have commercials, but there are many options to choose from with this unit, inlcuding some great free material, and the commercials are minimal compaired to broadcast TV. Be prepared for a bit of a change in what you typically view, and you will not be disappointed.
