Interesting little device

When I first obtained this little device I thought it would make my life so much easier with the ability to have multiple applications based out of one console and it being cheaper then buying a smart TV I thought it would make a great investment. For the most part this device has done everything that I would want it to do. There are however some set backs that kind of deterred me some with this unit. Netflix is a great application to run with Roku. However when running this application in particular I have found every once and a while the device will hard reset itself. Which in my line of work is never a good sign. I am glad that it can reset itself but at the same time has me a bit concerned. I do love the feature where we can plug in a flash drive and be able to play media off of that resource. For me shooting photography I can go into any house that has a decent TV plug the Roku into their machine and show them proofs of all the images if that is what the client wishes instead of me bringing my laptop with an external monitor. The one thing that I wish this device also had was the ability to access the youtube/vimeo databases to watch videos on. Other than that this device is amazing!

High quality and very capable media player!

After purchasing the Roku 3 player and using it for about a month, I am very pleased. This device replaced a previous media player from another company that had failed. The Roku 3 has many pros and only a couple of cons that I can point out:
Pros:
- Easy to set up and use software features & menus
- Compact quality designed reliable hardware
- Simple & easy to use remote control with headset capability
- Support for channel/software, hundreds of add-ons; built-in Amazon Instant Video
- Software updates are reliable and error free

Cons:
- Have to find and install USB drive add-on channel
- USB filenames are not visible; no ability to change font size/can't see full file
names on-screen
- No built-in support for DLNA network devices to stream videos from home servers
- Limited video media file type support - most .MP4 and some .MKV types (no .AVI)

Everything I was looking for!

I cut the cord and purchased the Roku 3. I love all of the features that it offers. I use HULU, Netflix, and Amazon video. I also like some of the other popular channels. The one thing it is missing, though, is a Youtube channel.

The Roku is a fantastic, simple device. My 7 year old has no problems using it. Setup was a breeze. My family liked it so much that after a month of using it we quit our satelite tv subscription. Plenty of content on it for free. Highly recommended!

I've had this device for 1-1/2 years and have never been disappointed. I use Roku 90% of the time if I want to watch TV. It has changed my TV viewing irreversibly. I couldn't live without it. Thank you!

Fast, Simple, Solid

Roku has helped me cut off my cable, creating huge monthly savings. Now, I only need Comcast for Internet Service. I'm saving over $100/mo and HARDLY miss the cable TV at all. With the Aereo app, I can get and DVR all my local broadcast channels, and then I can use Netflix, Amazon Instant, and all the other channels available for most other things. One glaring thing missing: Sports! I can no longer get Red Sox, Bruins, or Celtics games! Or ESPN! If you NEED the sports channels for your local teams, keep your cable TV, otherwise, I highly recommend Roku.

zero buffering issues - brainless set up

Got a free Sony Network Media Player SMP N100 for the bedroom from a friend at work. The only cable service we have is internet for Netflix and Hulu Plus. Constantly buffers..5 seconds of video 25 seconds of silly circle repeat ad naseum. Found the Roku 3 on line after researching specs and this little hockey puck is worth every cent compared to the freebie Sony. Tiny form factor is not even noticeable - the remote is easy to navigate and set up was brainless. HDMI in, power on, follow screen prompts. Ta da - even the technochallenged can plug this in and watch movies in 5 minutes. Wife is a night owl and loves the headset feature built in to the remote (me too). The only downside is the ear buds are so comfortable, (compared to that iPhone no size fits humans insert ear infection here) that she falls asleep with the phones plugged in...and kills the remote batteries in a week. Excellent product - no complaints....except for the registering my credit card for apps I will never use.
