The Best Gets Better

I now own 3 different Roku models (HD, 2XS & now the 3)& impressed w/constant improvements being made. The headphone jack in the remote is a great innovation. My 3 is currently hooked up to our Benq W1070 3D HD projector in out basement using a wire connection. Streaming video looks great on that 100 inch screen. My wife & I a big fans of anime @ really like the channels from Crunchyroll, Funimation & Manga Entertainment. Standbys like Netflix, Amazon Instant video, Hulu+ & Vudu also fight for play time. Current addiction is NHK World, straight news for 1/2 hour followed by their original programming & documentaries - love it.
Pros: Attractive Design, Simple Controls, Improved Audio/Video, Fast Setup
Cons: No 3d Support, Needs Digital Audio Out

Overheats and loss of wi-fi signal

The device is a great thing to have for the bedroom so I don't have to run wires everywhere, but it seems to get very hot and constantly loses its signal to the wi-fi which I then have to reset.
Pros: Fast Setup, Attractive Design, Simple Controls
Cons: Overheats, Poor Design, Loses Wi-fi

The quality of movies on the new ROKU was impressive, however if you don't have a subscription to Netflix or HULU or Amazon Prime, etc. you may have very limited choices to watch. We had to get the Netflix otherwise all movies that were free on ROKU were relatively old. The biggest surprise was that it does not have a direct ability to watch YouTube clips and movies. There are some suggestions on the WEB how to set up ROKU with Twonky application and watch videos on YouTube. But the setting requires the use of smartphone with appropriate settings-and selection will not go through ROKU remote control.

Since this is advertised as a HDMI device only. I was unhappy as I only have one TV that I could use at home. I bought this knowing that, but researched trying to find a way to convert HDMI to composite video. I needed that as I wanted to use it when I wasn't home and had no access to HI-def TV. I found such a device and while the video is obviously no as good as a HDMI connection, the quality is a good as what is found on earlier Roku devices.

Cons: No Composite Output, Hdmi cable not included

Great for watching Netflix and Hulu, sound and video are great. There are a lot of channels to choose from, but most are pay subscriptions. On some of the channels that you can choose such as PBS you get clips of shows but not entire episodes. Fox News shows to have a live feed but I have not gotten it to work. For watching movies and some television shows through Hulu and Netflix this box is great.
Pros: Simple Controls, Improved Audio/Video, Attractive Design, Fast Setup, Love The Ear Phones
Cons: Unable To Surf Internet, No Cbs Or You Tube

used as part of setup without cable/satellite (OTA only). Also used for local streaming via PLEX. Works great, but handling of different file formats would be good, as well as more audio formats. Needs to have more 'mainstream channels' to compete with other options available.
