Love that I can use headphones with the remote. Don't wake up my husband at all. Netflix plays great. Really the only thing I use this for. Only trouble I have is PBS rebuffers and I have yet to watch anything on that channel without giving up. I would also LOVE a YouTube channel...it would make this perfect!

This product by far is the most cheapest way to watch TV. It has numerous channels built in to satisfy the most critical TV watcher. Good Bye satellite or cable, Hello Roku!

Good Way To Stream

I bought this about a month a go to stream primarily Netflix movies and shows, Amazon Video/Movies to watch. The Roku was amongst the easiest "device" I every set up. I stream across my wired network without any major problems. I hiccup once in a long while, but nothing major. The stream from Netflix/Amazon/(and Hulu) was very good. The menu system to get to each works well. A few days a good I added Pandora to the options and streamed some music without a hitch. Overall the set up and use of this device has been very easy.

I ordered a Roku 3 from amazon.com for the main reason to cut the cable cord ($95 a month),or try to find a cheaper way to pay for tv viewing. but when i got it hooked up and running wasn't very impressed with the channels that were on the Roku, but started to dig around on the net and found a server called Play On ($60 one time subscripts key) that was one of Roku private channels. now the tv viewing was a little better now, but still didn't get all the shows in enjoy watching. more digging i did around the net about Play On more i found out about Play On plug-ins, got looking around on the plug-ins, I have found two plug-ins that i downloaded (free), one for my tv show viewing called Tube+ (shows from mid 70's to present day (2 days after they show on cable tv). The other is Movie 25 ( movies from 1918 to present day movies on dvd), now tv viewing is so much better with my set up, i haven't even watch tv on my cable for the last month. for that i just canceled my cable to day. Thanks for Roku making it possible for me to stream tv on my tv is awesome.
Sure i had to buy the Roku, HDMI cable, and the Play On key ($175 total), but will be paid back in two months from the money i save for not paying for cable and i'll have 95 bucks in my pocket every month

Not a bad product overall, but lack of HBOGo w/ Comcast made it not worth it for me. Probably not Roku's fault, but Apple TV has it with Comcast, so not sure what is going on there.

... The Good, the Bad & the Ugly

The Bad: When Hurricane Iniki hit our island 21 years ago we went without tv for months. When the cable returned we discovered we didn't need tv or those awful commercials anymore. So we cut the cable and became movie rental junkies. With the advent of the internet we found a new way to entertain and inform ourselves.
It is now 2013 and the Roku3 arrives. We think of our Roku3 as a conduit for Hulu plus and, ..with the addition of the USB slot on the side of the box, we can watch our other favorite vids via the harddrive.
The Ugly: I have personally tried the other "channels" but most of them are an enormous waste of time unless you are in love with commercial interruptions every few minutes and horrible B movies from back street crypts of Hollywood.
The Good: Overall I would say the Roku is worth owning and it has the potential to be much better in the future. We bought ours at Costco with the intent to try it and return it if we didn't like it. The Roku3 is still up on our tv case and we use it often, ..so, ...it's a Good little piece of technology that could only get better.
I recommend it to my friends along with the warning about the vast wasteland of bad movies and commercials... but Hey! ..that USB slot is always there as a backup so Roku ON!!

The best user experience for streaming content.

After a significant amount of research and trying various units in my home, this Roku 3 box came out as the best option available.  It leads the other options when streaming from Netflix, Hulu+, Amazon and other major services.
Here is what is missing form the Roku 3 to hold it back from being the "only" solution you might need: 1) YouTube is missing and could be a deal breaker if you are a big fan of YouTube.  2) streaming from a home network (NAS) is very limited due to format comparability.  3) playing files form USB drives is very limited for the same reasons as issue 2.
There are devices that are half the price that can handle all the missing elements of the Roku 3, but those devices fall short on the excellent interface and speed that the Roku offers of the major streaming services.  If you are more interested in playing a variety of video formats on USB or over a local network and browsing websites and YouTube videos, then this deceive is definitely not for you.
The addition of a YouTube channel will push the Roku to a five star rating, and the expansion of file formats for video playback would make this the only device you need as a media player.
The size and wireless control of this device are outstanding.  Do be aware that it can run a bit warm and consume power even when not in use.
Great job Roku...keep improving the devices.
