The Roku 3 is our first Roku product, so I can't speak to improvements over prior versions, but we're very pleased. It was a piece of cake to set up and simple to use. We bought it because we were tired of overpaying the local cable company, and in the first month after "cutting the cable" we saved more than the cost of the Roku. Great little device. In the time it has been running (about 3 months now, I think) we've powered it off and back on a couple of times because it got "stuck" somehow, but that cured the problem (and it is ready to roll again very quickly after power up).
Pros: Simple Controls, Attractive Design, Fast Setup

Very Practical!

The Roku 3 is incredibly easy to use and lets us turn any TV into a smart TV. I access downloaded material from my Amazon account and get to watch it straight on the TV without any hassle!! I can buy as much or as little as I want of paid programming.
Pros: Simple Controls, Fast Setup, Flexible, Improved Audio/Video, Versatile
Cons: Locks UP

Setup was breeze, choices on channels are great. One and only reason to give this product a 3 star. Channels will freeze if switching between different ones, resulting in a black screen on TV and an unresponsive ROKU. The only solution is to power off and power on after which the channel works normally.

Solid streaming - when working

I use my Roku 3 primarily for Netflix, Amazon, and Crackle streaming. When it's working smoothly, it is a great addition to my living room. However, on occassion it will comletely lock up for hours at a time. My remote will sometimes act a bit sketchy as well. If I turn it off for the rest of the night it will usually be working again the next evening. There have been a couple of times where it was unusable for days at a time, but those occurances are pretty rare. Overall, I'd recommend it.

Cancelled my Directv subscription and picked up Netflix to go along with the Amazon prime that I had, no other services needed in my opinion.

I don't subscribe to any traditional cable service. ROKU (and Aereo in NYC) are all I need to survive. I'm not missing anything and love the freedom of watching what I want, when I want.
