This is my third generation Roku product. I am currently using four Roku devices and probably will add more. All of my Roku devices received upgrades via the Internet so that the new look-and-feel is available on all of my Roku products. The new faster CPU is faster. All Roku devices provide almost limitless viewing opportunities. I already had the top-of-the line from the last generation so the changes in the Roku 3 are subtle. The speed and headphone jack on the remote are the two major upgrades. All Roku devices provide great audio and video performance and all Roku devices do what they do with less complexity than any other device. The new Roku 3 is no more expensive than the last generation product but is faster and has the remote control audio jack. It also comes with a headphone. I bought at Costco so I got a HDMI cable thrown into the deal.
Pros: Faster Menus, Remote Headphone Jack

Great little box however it can overheat

I mainly use this as a third cable box for my Time Warner Cable TV service. With the TWC TV app I can stream live HD TV without paying for an extra box. I love the ease of use and I love the headphones. I give them to my grandparents who are hard of hearing so they can listen to it on the headphones without disturbing the whole house with loud TV. The one thing that bothers me though is that for $100 it overheats regularly and I have to pull the plug and plug it back in for it to work again. I have tried it on a variety of different surfaces and it still overheats regularly. I would also like a way to turn it off since I have multiple TVs in the house and only use it on one. Overall though I would say I am happy with my purchase and would recommend this to others.

Life changing!

I had no idea what my experience would be when I ordered my Roku 3. All I knew for sure was that I needed to watch a broadcast that was steaming and they had a Roku channel so this device would meet the need. From the first hour I watched Roku streaming media, I knew my cable/satellite days were numbered. One week later, I called and cancelled cable. What a great feeling! I connected my Netflix subscription, created a HuluPlus account to handle broadcast TV, and linked Amazon on Demand. Less than $25/mo for hundreds of thousands of shows/movies/and instant rentals. I love how beautiful the new user interface is. It couldn't be easier to setup channels, browse content and select what you want to watch. I love the remote control - simple, elegant, and powerful. The audio jack on the side seemed extraneous until I used it a couple times. Then it was clear genius! Great innovation guys!!! The speed is impressive too. To launch my Netflix account via Xbox it takes more than 2 minutes (boot up, find app, wait to launch, select a movie, wait to load) but on the Roku 3 it takes less than 20 seconds to do the same thing. It's always on waiting for me and sips power while sleeping so I don't worry about it. I also purchased a mounting clip accessory so it sits beautifully right behind the corner of my TV out of site. Even within view, I think it's very attractive!

Streaming way better than just cable tv

We are currently streaming our Netflix and Amazon Prime and are starting to explore some of other channels for their content. With the cost of cable TV going up all of the time (even for channels with advertising)and us getting tired of paying for channels we never watch. With the Roku we get to pick and choose the channels WE want. As streaming catches on I expect to see even more channels offered.

Bought for mlb.tv, works great. Awesome for Netflix, Vevo, etc. Best entertainment investment. I constantly watch UOYtube, uoy just have to know how to do it and dig a little to figure out how. Well worth it. I honestly couldn't be happier. I was very hesitant to buy it at first, because I didn't know if it would be to my liking and only purchased it when I knew I could return it for a refund. But once I got it, I never looked back and never once thought about returning it.
