I'm a first gen Roku user and was looking for a device to play Netflix and Amazon from. I was very surprised when I discovered the R3 had been released and it fit my needs. Setup was simple, connection was easy and bootup to streaming services is almost instantaneous. I also LOVE the headphone jack in the remote. This is a great device. I wouldn't change a thing about it.

Since ditching my cable, I have been an enthusiastic Roku user. With Roku access to PBS, AcornTV, and Amazon Instant View, I am enjoying viewing what I want to see and when I want to see it. Thanks, Roku!

not recommended to use out of the US

I'm a traveller. I'm subscribed to pay streaming services and I bought roku3 to be able to stream my favourite tv series and watch them on the TV screen. I can watch netflix, hulu, and other channels on my pc and tablet while roku won´t even let me install these channels in the system
Pros: Simple Controls
Cons: Does Not Improve Audio/Video

Minor problem with remote control

The Roku 3 is a very good streaming device. It supports many different source streams (for some strange reason DirecTV does not support HBOgo on it). I like the flexibility of setting up the channels. My biggest gripe is with the remote control. Sometimes it appears to be sleeping and it takes a lot of button pushes or removal of the batter to get it working. Also, the earphone jack on the side of the remote is very difficult to make work with various earphones. Sometime I need to unplug the Roku. Other times it seems like the jack does not make good contact with the earphone plugs. On the positive the non-optical wireless remote is nice. I don't need to worry about line-of-sight for the remote to work

Freezes up once per day

The Roku 3 was the best of them I tried (I returned to the store several times). Although the product is more robust, the fact that you cannot shut it down causes it hang and requires an unplug for 10 seconds each time is cumbersome and aggravating.
Pros: Improved Audio/Video, Works Well When It Works, Fast Setup, Simple Controls, Attractive Design

Almost perfect except for Youtube

I use it primarily for watching Netflix and streaming songs and movies stored on my hard drive. It works perfectly for those applications. However, the clear lack of Youtube this long after release is a glaring omission. I recognize that this is not Roku's doing, but it does reflect on it. Currently, I have to go through an involved process via Plex Media Server. Many times, the remote becomes totally unresponsive, and only a reboot will fix it. This can get quite annoying because my smart phone's app still is able to control it. There is no easy way to uninstall a screen saver.
Pros: Simple Controls, Handy Android Remote, Attractive Design
Cons: Jerky Graphics Sometimes, No browser, No youtube, Occasional Remote Freezes

We have several roku devices. We do not have cable but with all the channels that are available on roku we don't miss it. We love the ability to listen to TV with the headphone jack (we use a splitter so that two of us can listen at the same time). This way we can is ten at night and not disturb the kids who are trying to sleep.
