No longer desire cable

Works great even with our DSL. Plenty of shows to watch. Do not have cable and now do not have a need for it. Biggest drawback is there are limited sports events to watch.
Pros: Fast Setup, Simple Controls, Attractive Design, Plenty Of Show Options
Cons: No Current Sports

Overall a slight nod over Apple TV

I bought my Roku 3 as a supplement to my Apple TV. I have an Amazon Prime membership and wanted to take advantage of the free streaming options from Amazon. Taken in its entirety I would say the Roku 3 is just a bit better than the Apple TV. The more comprehensive remote is nice. The headphone jack on the remote is simply brilliant. The use of radio instead of infrared for the remote is also quite smart. The additional viewing options (like Amazon Prime) are also nice as I think the Apple TV a bit limited in that regard. However, I found the set-up process took far too long and was problematic. I'm no computer slouch, but experienced a handful of issues which meant a 10-minute set-up took almost 50-minutes. While the on-screen menus are fine they aren't quite as polished as Apple's (so I think). I wish the unit included a menu option to put the device to sleep immediately as I have found it sometimes seems to forget to go to sleep. But my biggest complaint is lackluster wi-fi performance. It's ability to pull-in reception is no where near as good as my Apple TV. Dropped signal happens often enough I've abandoned using the device until I move into my new home where I will be more closely located to my wi-fi router. I had heard the Roku 2 had a similar issue, but that the 3 was much better. If this is better I'd hate to see how bad was the 2. In fairness though my wi-fi router is pretty far away, but I still don't have this dropped signal problem with the Apple.
Pros: Good But Not Great Remo, Headphone Jack On Remote, Lots Of Viewing Options
Cons: Weaker Wi-fi Than Apple, Cumbersome Set-up

We use Roku most to watch some of the old, clean favorites - escaping from current shows that are frequently "in your face" with concepts we just don't like shown to us or our children

At this price point, Adverts should not be the dominant feature of the GUI.= and/or have an opt out. On this alone I can not recommend this product. Too bad, I gave 3 of the Roku 2's as gifts. Hello Chromecast.

Game changer

Fantastic user interface compared to anything you find on cable - it's blazing fast and fun to use. I'm usually disappointed by new tech gimmicks but this is a winner for me. If it had rights to NFL games and if you had the ability to use HBO GO without a cable account, I would say goodbye to cable altogether. Super simple and haven't had any problems bringing it to a friend's place to use. Well worth it in combination with Netflix, HBO, and Amazon Prime accounts.
Pros: Fast, Intuitive
Cons: Not Easily Portable, No nfl
