I bought this because it works well with the Plex Movie Server. I connects easily and fast. The only thing I don't like is that the channel line up keeps changing. There are a number of channels that we use alot and would like a favorite lineup.
Pros: Improved Audio/Video, Location Doen't Matter, Works with Plex, Attractive Design, Fast Setup, Simple Controls
Cons: Channels Keep Moving

ROKU 3 Purchase

I checked a lot of other products, some cheaper some more expensive but it came down to being able to trust the ROKU brand to deliver the quality that I have come to expect from them. The ROKU 3 gave me the ability to use an Ethernet cable and get away from wireless which was my goal. I'm giving my two other ROKU's to my kids for them to use, which I know they will enjoy. Thanks ROKU!

Nearly a perfect solution used with Plex

I have been using off and on for about 9 months now. I tried 5 Roku2XL's and had to return all of them for the same problem that being they all lock up and it is necessary to reboot to make them work again. I can understand the possibility of something external causing a lock up but when it is necessary to reboot the problem is with the Roku. I now own a Roku3 and have not had the need to reboot but do still get freezes quite often. I feel that the Roku combined with Plex Is the absolute best cataloging available today and I have tried most alternative. The only week link is the ability to view. If it had the ability to view all different formats it would be perfect. Before I used the Roku The best commination for cataloging and viewing Movies and TV shows stored on my server was CollectorZ. The only problem with it is you need to manually enter all data.
Pros: Simple Controls, Easy to use
Cons: Won't Play All Formats, Freezes a lot

It's Pretty Awesome

I bought this for my brother because he kept complaining that we don't have cable. All we had was a TV antenna for the local channels. I already had Netflix, so I bought this. Now he can watch movies and doesn't complain. I like the Justin.tv app because of all the streams. And I like all of the news programs from around the world. There's no YouTube app, but there's always a way. Google Roku Channels for the special channels. The only problem I encountered was that it's frozen a couple times. We do leave this thing powered on 24/7 and that could have something to do with it. Didn't do it while watching anything, just while navigating the menu, but it's not a big deal. It's rare. Only thing I would recommend is the ability to add an external wifi antenna. I don't have internet, I "borrow" it. So I have a crazy elaborate setup to get internet near the Roku. But it would be a lot easier if I could hook up an awesome antenna directly to it.
Pros: Fast Setup, Attractive Design, Simple Controls

I've used every home media center software available for the last 10 years. All work, all good.. but none of them have ever been as turn key as first setting up a Plex media server on my computer then setting up my Roku and installing the Plex app. DONE! I have over 500 HD movies, and years of television content at my fingertips all on my home network. This is in addition to great streaming apps like Netflix, Hulu Plus, PBS/Kids, HBO Go and many more. For years I have been wanting to 'cut the cord' but there just hasn't been a solution that I could show my wife or my children how to use in 5 minutes. THIS WAS IT!
Pros: Wife Friendly, Turn Key Solution, Fast Setup, Simple Controls, Improved Audio/Video, Attractive Design
Cons: Expensive Apps

It does not work well on Crunchyroll for a month or two and then one day it loads well again? No rhyme or reason. Netflix movies often look a little blurry and then they start looking closer to hi def.? Why? Our Panny blu ray player is much better for Netflix. The new Panny players have Crunchyroll. Guess I will get one and no more Roku. It is still not ready for Prime Time.
