I am overall satisfied with this product. I have not had a cable provider for a few years, because of the expense, and I pleased to say that this is perfect compromise.

Good but not good enough

Good: fast scrolling through icons, look and feel of video interface, access to services like Amazon Prime, Netflix, Vimeo Bad: limited functionality of apps esp Spotify which has no radio, no ability to edit playlists, no social. No YouTube. Alternative: My current setup is Apple TV and Sony Blu-Ray with wi-fi media streaming for Amazon Prime and Pandora. I got the Roku 3 to replace PS3 because I was not using it for gaming and the PS3 is slow and uses a lot of power. In the beginning I loved Roku 3 but started missing functionality of iOS apps, especially Spotify, and I missed having a DVD/Blu-Ray player. I feel like for now things are pretty good with Apple TV and Sony Blu-Ray with wifi streaming. For now, nothing beats Airplay on Apple TV which is the main reason I still have Apple TV which I use mostly for streaming Spotify from my iPhone and iPad. Roku apps like Twonky beam and others do not come close to convenience of Airplay. If Chromecast incorporates Spotify and Amazon Prime and can replicate Airplay experience, Apple will be in trouble.
Pros: Fast Setup
Cons: Poor Design

I bought the Roku because I don't like the way cable prices have sky rocketed. I use the Roku for all my tv watching. The only thing that could be better is a youtube channel and more live streaming channels for sports and stuff.

My second Roku

As my heading says this is my 2nd Roku. Have one in my bedroom and now I got another one for the living room. I enjoy the Acorn TV app so wanted it downstairs too. So that's why I got the 2nd Roku. I only wish it had YouTube. :o( But you can't go wrong with alot of the apps available and new ones every week.

We use an "over the air" antenna...but wanted something extra, a little more variety. My son-in-law suggested a ROKU and seeing I already have a Kindle Fire I subscribed to Amazon Prime and WOW, we are having lots of enjoyment when there are reruns, etc. We do not miss cable or a dish.

Love my Roku

We spend summers in a campground in North Central Wisconsin and are unable to get cable, satellite, or antenna reception because of the trees. However, we can get internet service and the Roku has saved us from a rainy summer of DVDs we have watched over and over. The Roku 3 is easy to use and since we already subscribe to Netflix and Amazon Prime we get a great variety of movies and network shows. I wish we could get a few more current TV shows but I believe that more and more stations and shows will become available via internet. The only problem we have is that we connect via wi-fi and we need to hard wire the Roku to our modem to use my Big Fish games. We'll figure that out eventually though. We plan to take it home with us to Florida in September.
