Great product but remote is useless

I bought a Roku 3 to replace a cable box in our master bedroom and I am satisfied so far. I have been using the unit for about two months now. A good amount of apps and shows available to watch. Lots of shows for the kids as well. My two biggest complaints and is the reason it didn't get more stars are as follows: 1) our remote started giving us problems early on, just stops working for no reason. Tried everything listed online that I could find, batteries, unplugging unit, re-syncing the remote etc. No matter what works again for a short time then stops again. Use the app on your smart phone, works much better. 2) While watching a channel just for kids my kids were bombarded with advertisements for a brand of liquor... Really?? It's a channel for kids only why would they allow that kind of advertising to children, very lame.
Pros: Fast Setup, Much Cheaper than cable, Good Free Apps, Improved Audio/Video, Attractive Design, Simple Controls, Watch what you want
Cons: Remote Doesn't Last, Liquor Adds On Kids Shows

Everything is great about the Roku3. I use the skip ahead button especially at the start of the movies to skip right where the movie starts.
Pros: Simple Controls, Fast Setup, Attractive Design, I Like Angry Bird, Improved Audio/Video

Occasionally, when the Roku loses Wi-Fi connection, it can have trouble reconnecting on it's own and requires the user to manually go into settings to reconnect.
Pros: Attractive Design, Plex, Amazon Prime, Fast Setup, Netflix, Simple Controls
Cons: No Google Play Movies, No youtube

I had previously been struggling with playback of netflix on my Samsung bluray. The Roku 3 surpasses blu ray, pc streaming, and smart tv in setup, performance, and convenience.
Pros: Attractive Design, Simple Controls, Fast Setup

Needs frequent rebooting

We replaced a roku xds player that worked quite well because we were interested in the new search function which lets you search through all roku content. On the positive side, there is a definite improvement in video quality. However, there are two problems. The first is that the interface sometimes doesn't work well--the curser soemtimes jumps two lines at a time. But the worst problem is that it frequently freezes on one or the other screen and needs to be rebooted--almost every time we use it.
Pros: Improved Audio/Video, Fast Setup, Good Search Function
Cons: Needs Frequnt Rrebooting, Freezes On Screen
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

A friend recommended the Roku to me after listening to me complain about the high cost of my monthly cable bill, I was very hesitant at first b/c I always told myself "I could never live w/o cable", however growing tired every month of paying that extremely expensive cable bill I finally decided to disconnect and go w/the the new Roku3, it has exceeded my expectations, I really like it a lot and wish I would of switched over months ago and the best part It saves me over $100.00 every month. My only dislike is there is no NFL channel. I may have to go back to cable just 5 months (Sept-Jan) for the NFL season.
Pros: Attractive Design, Fast Setup, Simple Controls
