I wanted to get this product because I was sick and tired of getting blurays by mail and they were always scratched or would not play well even with firmware updates. The Roku 3 elimenates that problem. I am so glad I finally made the leap to this whole streaming thing. The only thing I wish is that ALL of the movie apps would stream 1080p as well as Dolby True HD or DTS Master Audio, but that is not a Roku problem it is the various apps...Other than that I think this is a wonderful product. It is very intuitive even for those folks that are not savy in home electronics. In the future I also hope they come out with a Qwerty key pad remote then I would definetly give this a 5 star instead of a 4 star.

One of two products I'd consider

I tried Roku as an alternative to another market leading product. At the time, the other product didn't support HBO GO, Pandora, or Amazon Instant Video. Ultimately, while the other product still has room for improvement, I still like it better than Roku in terms of user interface, purchase flow, and integration with my other gear from the same manufacturer (including proprietary play-over-air technology). Roku too often felt like a bunch of disparate parts cobbled together. But for someone who doesn't want to be locked into a single manufacturer's marketplace, Roku is a good solution.
Pros: Amazon instant streaming, Pandora
Cons: Poor Design, Inconsistent Interface

Way better than satellite TV!

My mom wanted to reduce her satellite TV costs and Roku 3 is how we did it. I had friends that used Roku and they recommended it. At first mom was afraid she'd lose some of the satellite news channels that she liked, but Roku had those channels and much, much more. Plus, being elderly, mom doesn't always catch onto things as quickly as she used to, but Roku was so simple to use that she was using it like a pro in just a few minutes. I love the headphone jack and volume control on the remote that allows me to watch Roku while not disturbing others. That feature is AWESOME!

Excellent but has a few quirks!

Before purchasing the Roku 3, I tried all the other name brands out there, this one is the very best! We have had minor issues with it only. So minor that it did not want calling customer service. Our unit will sometimes freeze not during a movie or video but when we first turn it on. Simply unplugging the power cable for 30 seconds and reinserting it fixes this issue. It does not happen often but sometimes.
Pros: Attractive Design, Improved Audio/Video, Unit Does Not Have To Be Visible To Operate, Fast Setup, Simple Controls
Cons: Will Freeze Up From Time To Time

Not the fault of Roku, but there are no channels to play Google Play Store content.

Roku - closest thing to cable freedom

I use this product to watch TV shows via Hulu, rent movies via Vudu and Amazon, and watch my own movies via Roksbox. Pros - nice interface - tons of content - streaming music - global search across all content sources - decent local playback with 3rd party apps Cons - Limited support for sports and local content - Honestly, I could cancel cable if I could get my local channels and NFL football

Cons: No football, No nfl, No local channels

I use the product for movies and some tv shows (a lot of Netflix). There is a lack of live shows, which is kind of a bummer since the only thing I really want to watch live is the news in the mornings. Also, the national channels (NBC, CBS, FOX, ABC) do not have channels associated with Roku. Neither do any of the cable channels (A7E, Discovery, History), however, there are apps for Apple and Android. Further, I can watch Xfinity on-line on my CPU/MAC, but there isn't a channel on Roku. The plus side is that there are a lot of off-brand channels that specialize in for outdoor oriented folks like myself. I do miss the "recently played" shows, but am happy with the Roku. I can catch the shows from last night on the CPU (because I don't pay for Hulu+).
Pros: Attractive Design, Simple Controls, Fast Setup, Instant watching, Improved Audio/Video
Cons: Live Feed Channels
