Better Than A DVR!

The Roku3 is my second purchase of the Roku line. I have one at my mom's house and one at mine. It brings everything together into one place and navigation is a breeze. Before Roku I had three different devices and a DVR. Switching between them required separate remote controls for each and drove my wife crazy. The Roku's simple design makes getting what I want a breeze. And the variety! There is so much to see. You could do some of the same lookups on the Internet, but Roku has done the homework for you and brought it into one neat package. If it were not for some of the content providers requiring you to have a cable/satellite subscription, I would leave all those behind and just enjoy Roku alone. I think I am headed in that direction anyway.
Pros: Fast Setup, Attractive Design, Simple Controls, Improved Audio/Video

Replaced internet functions (Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, etc) routing through my Blueray, as it was unbearably slow. The Roku is blazing fast compared to the Blueray. Very impressed.
Pros: Simple Controls, Improved Audio/Video, Fast Setup

Love the roku3, very fast and tons of channels. Particulary love Plex. I just wish it had Youtube, and that the volume controls on the remote worked when not using headphones.
Pros: Simple Controls, Fast, Attractive Design, Fast Setup
Cons: No youtube, Want Volume On Remote

I love my Rokus. They are now my primary source of TV. Using Simple.TV for broadcast TV, Plex for my personal video/audio libraries, Netflix for streaming library, and Vudu/Amazon for on-demand/new releases. When it works, it works very well. Moving between apps and keys when searching is much faster, but could stand to be improved - this is mitigated by the Roku Android app which is how I type most of the time. The new video search functionality is great, but it would be nice if it was extended across all apps - I have many videos in Plex and some TV in Simple.TV that don't get included in the unified search. When it doesn't work... The app keyboard can occasionally be sluggish, or type the same letter repeatedly. I haven't noticed it as much lately so recent updates may have addressed this - it seemed much more responsive today. More significantly, it doesn't maintain a wireless signal well, which is an issue when a physical connection is no longer an option. Again, this seems to be improved, but still not acceptable (when I first got it the device would struggle to stay connected for a 45 minute TV show, now it will generally stay connected 4-8 hours before dropping). Finally, on occasion it will just completely freeze up and then reboot. Generally this happens when trying to start a video - loading will appear to freeze. This typically happens when internet drops, but when I try to go home to fix the network it doesn't respond. After a minute or so, the device will reboot itself from this state (assuming I haven't already pulled the power myself). This is not as frequent as the wireless dropping, but does tend to happen 1-2 times a week. I now have the Roku on a power strip that I shut down when I'm done with the TV. This helps ensure I always start with an internet connection, but it means I need to check for updates periodically in case they were missed while the system was off. So far, between some updates and setting it up on the power strip, I've stuck with this instead of reverting back to the Roku 2. Most of the time my use of it is under 4 hours at a time, so I don't run into the issues I listed as frequently now that it starts fresh when I fire up the entertainment center. I hope future updates further stabilize the system. However, as it is today, it is still a solid player with the best variety of streaming devices on the market. I would (and have) recommend it for cord-cutting or just to supplement a cable package.
Pros: Best Variety Of Apps, Attractive Design, Fast Setup
Cons: Wireless Intermittent, Freezesreboots Often, Freezes often

This is a great product, no need to go to video stores, our even red box, the price of gas these days why make two round trips to red box to pick up a movie then drive the next day to return it, you can watch free movies at crackle, or with a Netflix subscription of only $7.99 a month watch unlimited movies, In addition with amazon, and block buster app, you can stream recent new releases between $2.99-$4.99..not bad ;) especially saving those round trip rides to red box... Would of gave it 10 stars if it had internet browser, overall its a great product and I strongly recommend to anyone..
