I received this as a product tester. It was an overall good product but not better than our Xbox. Everything we could do on it we could do on the Xbox. Honestly, I would go with an Xbox as you can watch DVD's and play games on it

Okay but has problems

I bought my first Roku (Roku HD) in 2008 and loved it from the start. Main use is streaming movies. The only problem I had was a weak wifi connection, but this was resolved with a wired ethernet connection. I replaced the Roku HD in 2013 with the Roku 3 because I was having connectivity problems with the HD - - turns out the problems were apparently due to a faulty internet service provided modem. There are several things I liked better about the old HD model and some things I like better about the Roku 3. The old HD was replete with output ports (HDMI, component video, composite video and stereo audio, S video, and optical audio). The Roku 3 has only an HDMI port. This is fine if HDMI is all you need, but I liked having the other output options. Both units have ethernet ports, so they come out even in this regard. The Roku 3 is smaller and snazzerier looking, but this is actually a minus for me. I liked the sturdy heft and the solid appearance of the old HD model. The Roku 3 remote is a good improvement over the HD remote - - the blue tooth feature is great and the grand kids have a ball using it to play Angry Birds. The location of the OK or Select button on the Roku 3 remote is a bit troublesome - - I preferred having in the center of the navigation buttons. I haven't tried the earphone option, but that is a nice feature. Video quality with the Roku 3 is comparable to the HD model at 720p, but the Roku 3 is full HD 1080p capable so this is a distinct improvement. Now for the real rub and my major complaint with the Roku 3. Apparently the Roku designers decided to go for a faster download (highly desirable), and this is what you get if download speed is defined by the time delay between pressing PLAY and the start of the video. But, here's the rub: even though the video starts right away, it takes up to a minute or longer to reach full video quality - - during that time the video is very fuzzy and poor quality. I would much prefer that the video started only after full HD video quality has been reached. Another minus for the Roku 3 is the lack of a video quality indicator similar to the four-dots and HD legend with the old Roku HD. In summary, the Roku 3 is a good unit for steaming video, but I think the designers made some poor choices and bad compromises when they redsigned the HD to produce the Roku 3.

Really like the new remote

1) Love the headphone jack in the remote - problems reported by other users, but mine worked fine out-of-the-box. 2) Besides the HDMI output, could use an additional digital audio out feature.
Pros: Fast Setup, Simple Controls, Attractive Design

This Roku is fast, and easy to set up, but it has some problems, at time it gets stuck, in movies with episodes it takes a long time to get it to move to another episode, sometimes it takes a long time to get it to show a movie, it shows the title of the movie, but when you press enter it takes a while to load.
Pros: Attractive Design, Improved Audio/Video, Simple Controls, Fast Setup
Cons: Movie Titles Don't Show, Gets Stuck At Times, Not Fast Enough

overall a good product but the short battery life and having to reset it almost every day is annoying. I like the 2XD much better.

Nice Product

I watch mainly broadcast TV. Recently I began using Netflix and Amazon. The RUKU improved my viewing by virtually eliminating the streaming delays caused by my slow internet connection. This is exactly why I bought it.
Pros: Good Video Buffer, Fast Setup, Simple Controls, Rare Streaming Delays
