Remote is battery hog

The products works as advertised. Nothing difficult about it. Sets up easily and is ready for instant action. The only draw back is the remote barrels through AA cells. There is no way to turn off the remote, and it most likely has a standby power mode, and becomes alive when the remote is moved about. But, most remotes whether they are used or not, usually hang around on a couch or bed that might always be jiggling, and moving the remote whether it is being used or not. Perhaps the best solution is to use rechargeable batteries in this product.

Painful to setup on non-hdmi TV's

There are many great reviews on the UI, Channel Line-up etc... and I agree with these. This review is specifically about setting up on an older 720P television. If you have a newer 1080i television with HDMI support no need to read on. I am an early adopter, and therefore have an older Panasonic Plasma in our bedroom. The television is 720P and does not have HDMI support. It did however have VGA, Component and DVI inputs, so I thought I would be able to figure it out. I bought a HDFury HDMI to Component and VGA converter. The issue is that the HDFury and all other converters I found only convert the format but do keep the resolution at the level of the input. The fact that Roku auto-senses the resolution output and the HDFury will accept 1080i means it is impossible to force Roku to output at a lower resolution. I even tried setting it up on a newer television, forcing the output level and then moving it. Roku tech support said it is a known issue and they could not support my television. In the end I used the VGA output on the HDFury which was compatible with the TV. This is not ideal as the input is on the front panel and I now have ugly wires hanging out. This would all be avoidable if Roku provided a simple software update that let you select your output levels. Either come factory default at a lower level that would have broader compatibility and then let you select the higher level, or provide an initial setup screen that asks "Can You See This" and then down converts until you can.
Pros: Easy To Use Once Setup, Fast Ui Response, Good Ui
Cons: Poor 720p Support, Difficult setup, Resolution Configuration

Good, worth buying

I have Roku 2XD, but I wanted roku 3 for my HDTV, and worth buying can't decide what to watch over all the channels between the roku's and my Dvr I don't have enough time to watch tv.

I love the easy addition of free channels in addition to the channels I already subscribe to (i.e. Netflix, Hulu Plus, Vudu & Amazon). What I find most useful is the universal search function which searches title, actor/actress names, etc. across several services and once found, will tell you which services it was found on (i.e. Netflix, Hulo Plus, etc.) and the options for watching it. I originally used the AppleTV box but the Roku 3 I am much happier with. For the suburb team behind the Roku product, great job!! You trully have an outanding product.

A wonderful product

Our son gave this to us for a gift when we were recovering from surgeries. It was easy for two non-tech people to set up and use. We love it. We can watch tv series and movies instantly right on our tv.

Roku has enlightened my entertainment experience, and saved me money. I live in the outskirts of the city and TV reception is bad. I read about ROKU on the Internet and decided to give it a try. Great decision! Roku is more than I had expected, and am very happy that I have it hooked up to my big screen TV. You can never get bored with a Roku! I have showed it off to friends and family, and they were so impressed that they ordered a Roku for their home.
