Quite honestly, it's a little finicky

I am a ROKU fan. I have multiple models and when the 3 came out, I was willing and ready to purchase. I unplugged the HDMI from my 2 XD and moved the 2 XD downstairs. I then plugged the 3 into the same HDMI cord that had been working all along. I got no video...just audio. I rebooted the unit and did the same thing. Same result. I then went thru the tedious task of disconnecting my entire system, and plugging in another HDMI (same brand, same model)...and it worked. Unsure why. As of late, it has frozen up on me several times and needed to be unplugged an rebooted. Here's my honest evaluation: Unless you NEED the headphones...save your money and headaches and stick with the 2 XD.
Pros: Fast Setup, Headphone Jack
Cons: Crashes, Locks UP

I was able to cut back cable and use the ROKU to watch pretty much everything I was watching through Netflix, Hulu Plus, and Amazon Prime. So easy to use and much easier than constantly plugging the computer into the tv.
Pros: Saves Me On My Cable Bill, Fast Setup, Simple Controls

I am sort of a techie/gadget enthusiast. I love to buy all the electronic things that come out. I have told many friends and family that ROKU is simply the best bargain I have ever made in electronics. Prior to ROKU, I tried streaming Netflix and Amazon Instant Media through my Blu-Ray disc player since they were pre-set into the machines. It was not a very good experience. Incredibly long wait/buffering times were so frustrating that I would not use the services very often. A friend mentioned ROKU for streaming Netfix, and I stored that bit of info for later, then decided to give it a try...heck...what's another $100.00 or so was my thought. This is by and far the best electronic investment I have made...It has paid for itself by my use, and the use of other household members. It is so ofetn in use, that I had to get a second on for the other television. This second ROKU is wi-fi compatible and a joy! If you are a shopper considering purchasing a ROKU device, I would say to stop considering it, and Just GO AHEAD AND BUY IT!
Pros: Bargain And Value, Improved Audio/Video, Ease Of Streaming, Simple Controls, Fast Setup, Attractive Design
Cons: Searching Multi Vendors

Finds totally wrong titles and artwork for movies it doesn't "know" or adult videos. Potentially very embarrassing! Wrist strap should be removable. WORST: No video/audio in FF or REW, so tough to tell when to stop. Needs faster way to skip through titles. Menus confusing; little or no diagnostic info available. Missing an "Off" mode. OK for 100% "typical" users; any unusual network setup requires major troubleshooting and experimentation. Technical support is worthless for networking questions. Finally, often won't play files or gets hung up while playing.
Pros: Picture Quality Good, Great Hp Jack Concept
Cons: No Picture In Ffrew, No Picture In Fast Modes, Network Setup Confusing, Hp Jack Badly Placed, No Picture In Ff Or Rew, Autonaming Movies - Fail, Menus Too Deeply Nested
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

We have an Apple TV in the family room, but while there are a couple of nice features, the usability is terrible, especially the remote control. Since we have Amazon Prime and Apple TV doesn't support that, I went looking for something that did when we decided to add streaming to our TV in the bedroom. The Roku 3 set up in minutes and was really easy. Navigation is simple and the remote is terrific! Not only does it have the right level of controls (not complicated by not simplified to the point of near-uselessness), but you can also listen to the audio through the remote! So one of us can sleep of the other wants to catch a show or movie. The only downside is content - we have Hulu Plus, Netflix and Amazon Prime and while there are a LOT of shows and movies, we occasionally find we've run through most of what we want to watch. We've each subscribed to a few shows, which helps. This is the future of viewing, and we've saved a ton of money by living without satellite or cable. Roku 3 is pretty much a no-lose proposition for anyone with a streaming account like the ones we have. We love it!
Pros: Simple Controls, Fast Setup
Cons: Content
