Potential, but has issues

We use it for Netflix and some of the free educational channels. I like the device, but every time we switch to the device, it acts partially hung. Remote commands don't really work, but you see some spastic reaction after many seconds. Unplugging/plugging the power fixes it and then it works perfectly. But it is days between uses and it is always in the same hung state the next time.
Pros: Attractive Design, Fast Setup, Simple Controls
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Love the new look and features. The remote on the other had needs to be redesigned I feel. When the earplugs are plugged in on the side it is just awkward and gets in the way of changing the channels or buttons. Would be better on the bottom of the remote where it is not in the way. Also the OK button is below the toggle switch and I am always confusing the buttons by pressing all but the one I want. If the OK button was in the middle of the toggle switch it would be much more convenient and easier access, like the tv remote.
Pros: Fast Setup, Attractive Design, Improved Audio/Video
Cons: Poor Design

Overall a great value and experience

I purchased the roku so my girlfriend and I could watch streamed videos from my pc (via plex), and to stream netflix. The overall experience is quite enjoyable and the interface is very fast. Netflix looks clear while in super hd on my 1080p tv, and plex runs flawlessly even with srt files for subtitles. Two problems that I have noticed however is that, one, the Netflix app will freeze after watching an episode of a show or movie and you will have to completely back out of the program with the home button in order to get it to work again. The second problem is that the weather app that displays weather with slides only functions for a little while. As a screensaver, eventually, it disables itself as if it is a shareware program. You have to uninstall the app and re-install it to get it to function again. There is no option to buy the program (I've looked!). It's free on the page so you have to just reinstall it. I've had to do this twice since I've owned the roku unit. It surprises me that bugs like this are still common on the interface... Unless they are specific to my unit I would expect the experience to be more polished than that. Overall though, for the value it can't be beat. I tried my sister's vizio smart tv and the roku's interface owns it hands down. The only thing the roku is missing now his YouTube, which won't ever be properly released likely... since Google is releasing chromecast which is a YouTube & media streamer from external devices.

With Plex, My media, from Playon (not a spammer it's all free) and Justin TV combined with the dual-core A9 processor, this device is a must have for a cord cutter like myself!! Not only has it improved my TV experience with it's simple, motion wireless controller. It has also opened the door to streaming and downloading on a large scale. Gone are the days of plugging in a USB, going to your local Redbox, or to the CPU to find a current movie to download. All you need to do these things now are SS PLEX or Icefilms (more free stuff in the unsupported app store, google it if you don't know) connecting you computer directly to the TV is now a thing of the past...
Pros: Fast Setup, Attractive Design, Improved Audio/Video, Easy Netrworking, Wireless Greatly Improved, Simple Controls
