Great streaming player

The little remote works pretty good actually. I find it more user friendly and a little "beefier" that my apple tv remote. Also happy that I'm able to watch streaming video via amazon, here at an APO address, outside the U.S. on this unit, without the need for using a IP blocker. Of course some networks such as netflix are still blocked, but I'd rather not user an IP blocker. amazon has so much content on it.
Pros: Simple Controls, Fast Setup, Attractive Design
Cons: Strong Connection Needed

This beats the Apple TV that I also own. It offers more channels, that can be customized to your preference. My favorite channel is amazon movies being a prime member it produced the best movies in hd for free. It's an a around player the best on the market check out cnet. The only down fall is that it produces a strong wifi signal that I cannot connect to. It would cut down on data use. But still better than apple.
Pros: Games Like Angry Birds, Number Of Channels, Fast Setup, Ease of use, Attractive Design, Simple Controls
Cons: Broadcasts It's Own Wifi

A small step up

I like the Roku 3 and am glad I upgraded from the 2HD. But it's not that much of an upgrade. It's faster. But occasionally I have to restart it to get it to respond to the remote. I liked the 2HD's interface better. It only has HDMI output. No composite or component outs, so only new TV's work with it. I like the headphone jack on the remote, but I don't like that they moved the select button from the center of the four directional arrows to below them. It is less convenient. I also don't like the cylindrical bottom of the remote. I rolls too easily on an arm rest.
Pros: Faster buffering, Attractive Design, Remote With Headphone Jac
Cons: Worse Interface, At Times Unresponsive

Wifi remote with headphone jack

The remote uses wifi instead of IR. I never realized how much lag an IR remote had until I used the Roku's. It's amazing how instantaneous the response is when you press a button, and it doesn't matter where you're pointing it. My kids like to hide the remote behind them and show off that it still works. At night, when the family is sleeping, I plug my earbuds into the remote, and can watch an otherwise loud movie without anyone even aware that I'm awake. That feature right there sold me. If you're used to huge pain of turning on subtitles on the AppleTV, rest assured that Roku did it right. You jump out of the video, and the option is right there. Jump back in and resume. The most conspicuously missing feature is YouTube. I also wish it had AirPlay, but understand there's an app you can download that supports it.
Pros: Responsive Remote, Usb Input For Movies, Remote Headphones
Cons: No youtube, No airplay, No Position Save For Usb

There are a lot of channels, but many are synopses of content and not the active, live content itself. I find that I turn off ROKU and turn to my cable connection for news, sports, weather, etc. I had hoped for a smorgasbord of choices but that is not the case. It is not yet a facile substitution for the cable option.
Pros: Fast Setup, Well Sized, Simple Controls
Cons: Content Limits
