2nd Roku I've owned, some good some bad

I bought the first generation Roku player almost 5 years ago and within two weeks i cancelled my cable subscription. I just upgraded to the Roku 3 for the increased video capabilities. I havent noticed much of an increase, but i realized that this model is really limited since my old model i could take and hook up in hotels when I traveled. This one seems unlikely to be able to travel with due to the limited outputs. HDMI is a miserable output and everyone knows it. It was invented to stop piracy but doesnt actually do anything great for video/audio quality. I really was excited for motion controls with the remote, except they dont work very well.
Pros: Price For Quality, 1080p, Simple Controls, Improved Audio/Video, Fast Setup, Attractive Design
Cons: Poor Design, No Av Out, Only Hdmi Out, Angry Birds Controls, No Component Out

Great choice for a set-top box

While I almost exclusively use this for Netflix, the variety of channels is great. I can watch TEDTalks, check out Amazon's Prime streaming selection, and even discover some new things. The largest downsides are the lack of YouTube and the lack of an out-of-the-box network streaming solution. There are a few third-party channels available for the network streaming, but none that I'm aware of for YouTube. All that said, the only better set-top box solution I'm aware of is to build your own, and even then you won't be able to beat the price.
Pros: No Stock Network-play, Fast Setup, Simple Controls
Cons: No Stock Network Stream, No youtube

I have always streamed a lot of media from my PC. Previously I had an Xbox 360(only used for streaming media) on our upstairs TV and a PS3(used for gaming as well) on the downstairs PC. I replaced my Xbox 360 with a Roku, and could not be happier. The Plex channel in conjunction with Plex media server is by far the most user friendly setup I have ever used. It automatically sorts all my TV shows and movies, provides detailed information about each episode, and even marks which ones I have already watched! I am even thinking about getting a second roku for the downstairs, but until then, if I want to I can move the roku between the tvs because its so small.

Hands down a MUST OWN

Quite possibly the best streaming media device I own. For $99, there's nothing else on the market at this price that features as many online streaming services in FULL HD. The Roku 3 is a HUGE improvement over previous versions. If you want to stream just about any service to your HDTV, the Roku 3 comes highly recommended.
Pros: Simple Controls, Improved Audio/Video, All Major Services, Attractive Design, Fast Setup
Cons: No Web browser, Interface Lags Over Time

I watch baseball and movies primarily. The 3 has improved an already enjoyable experience over my Roku2 HD. The UI is much improved. I haven't had time to explore the other channels much, but there are many. Cable and Fiber TV services are really missing the boat by not offering ala carte programming. Internet TV does exactly that and Roku is at the forefront. Keep up the good work.

Ease of use is great

I wanted to stream and watch my Amazon Prime movies and TV shows onto my HDMI 32" TV. I don't have a 'Smart TV' so Roku 3 did the job. It was easy to set up, It found my wireless connection with no problems. And the streaming is seamless. The downside is how you have to input characters one at a time to search; but it does have a memory for recent searches. I had to return an older RoKu because it was not compatible with my router, but the Roku 3 had no problems.

I bought the one with the ear phone connection for private listening. I use this function regularly. I am comparing this unit with the original Roku that I very much liked and still use. a. A major improvement is the ability to recover quickly from internet hick-ups. b. The improved user interface for channel selection. c. The fast speed of response to commands. d. The excellent search function to find movies or shows available in all channels is a big plus if you are looking for a particular movie or show. Also for a particular actor or director etc. I like this model very much and have recommended it to others.

Cons: Remote Battery Life
