Great product

I bought the roku 3 about 3 months ago. It is by far the best streaming box I've gotten to use. I've also found it to be better than any video game console as well. I use the it often for hulu and Netflix but I will occasionally put my flash drive in and watch my own movies It is great at what it does. The remote is particularly nice in that it's small, fast, uses almost no batteries, works in any direction and even has a headphone output. The device delivers almost everything you could want from a streaming box. Unfortunately I did have to deduct a star for a few small issues. The biggest problem is that it doesn't have any output except for hdmi. This means that I needed to buy a $40 adapter and another hdmi cable in order to hook up to my surround sound system. The other issues are mostly pretty small. The advertised games are so unnecessary it's not even worth trying. Sometimes (about once every 2 weeks) it will reset itself which really isn't a big deal. I just wish I could control the volume from the remote, it has volume control but it's only for headphones. Overall though it's great I would give it 4.5 stars but I can't so it goes down to 4. It's great for anyone who doesn't have a home theater system

How long has it been since you had a really, really good idea? This needs to be your next one! Are you a technophobe? I'm a technology dunce in most ways related to plugging this cord into that jack and this cord into the other one. I set this up by myself in like 4 minutes, and that included taking it out of the package and putting batteries in the remote. Also, NO MORE CLUNKY CABLE BOX! That's a HUGE pro in my book. I have a sleek black box about the size of a hockey puck where my old dust collecting cable box was. The selection of Roku channels is decent, though not stellar. Luckily, I had done my homework and read that a lot of Roku users add the PlayOn channel, and users can create their own channels, which you can download, generally for free. Between that and what the other channels offer, I have my choice of quality tv programming. My only concessions so far have been that I can't get a local station for news and sometimes I have to dig around in channels to find the shows I want. If I'm patient,though, I can find whatever I want, pretty much. For cable, I was paying OVER $200/month. I expect this little box to save me something like $180/month or more, seriously. (It all depends on if I buy streaming video from channels like Vudu). The only people I would not recommend this for are people who have dial up or very dicey internet connections. I am so impressed, I have sold units to friends just by word of mouth. I plan to give at least one away as a Christmas gift. This will be the best money you ever spent on a good idea. *I was in no way compensated for this review. Roku is just that awesome.

Easy setup, minor shortcoming

Overall, I am happy with the Roku3. This is my second unit, and it's an improvement over Roku2 with earphone plug in the remote for private listening without disturbing the family. sometimes, the unit hang and required power cycle. In other times, the unit didn't respond to the remote and had to remove and re-insert battery to work. Overall, unit works reliably most of the time, so I am still happy with the purchase.

Cons: Sometimes Hang, Remote Cntrl Hang
