Roku makes it simpler

We've been using our Roku3 since May 17th. It seems like we've had it forever, I looked back on the date I registered for this review and was shocked it had only been a little over 2 months. I set it up myself in three minutes and I'm not the most technologically inclined person. We used this to replace a Wii we were using for streaming Netflix mostly. We had already cut cable by the time we got this, and it has a lot more content than either the Wii or PS3 as far as I can tell. It streams flawlessly (your personal internet connection not withstanding) and is super easy to use. If we had kids, I have no doubt they could operate this as simply as a normal cable box. The search function is awesome, entering a show, title, or author brings up all results possible and what channel they are available on. There are many pay channels that I believe add to the experience, but we have not yet spent any cash (aside from our Netflix monthly payment and the Amazon Prime subscription that we've had for years without even using the streaming function prior to this), nor have we gone a day without finding something to watch using what we have and what is free. Haven't spent a ton of time on any channels besides what's mentioned, so maybe another reviewer can add info in that area. It's easy to use, a one time investment, and rivals ease and access of a very basic cable package when paired with Hulu in my personal opinion. We ran a ethernet line to it, and it loads everything within seconds. The remote app for your smart phones is great, we put the remote up so it's less clutter. All in all, can't recommend it enough. It's a small upfront investment, slim profile, works effortlessly, and offers more than we use it for. We watched mostly TV, no sports and minimal new movies, so with that in mind, it works fabulous for our household.

The first Roku 3 I received completely locked up after a month. Returned for a new one. I have had to reboot (repower) my new one 3 time when it locked up. Otherwise, the unit is fast, easy to use, and produces a beautiful picture.
Pros: High Capacity, Fast, Beautiful Picture
Cons: Had To Return First One, Locks UP, Numerous Reboots
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I can't believe the video and audio quality. It felt great to get rid of the high cost of cable TV. I love being able to watch what I want, when I want to. No shortage of content out there. The fact that you can play games really pleased my youngest daughter. The HD video and surround sound blows my mind. Such a small device that delivers BIG!!! You can't go wrong buying one of these. I'm getting another one for upstairs. Unbelievable!!!

Perfect for watching movies at bedtime

Bought this to watch Netflix movies at night without disturbing others. No idea how, but once headphones are plugged in, TV sound bar is muted. Now I can crank up the volume at night! Not sure why this isn't made more clear in description, but this is in Stereo! I like the IR function and the newly designed remote so well, I bought another for the living room.

Two Roku 3s, Mixed Results

I love Roku in general and use it instead of having Cable. As long as the network is stable, things are great. I stick with the main commercial content providers, Hulu Plus, Netflix and Amazon. I have two Roku 3s as well as two of the last generation. The new 3s are great when they work. I have had the exact same set of WIFI related flakiness with both new units in two different homes (and two different WIFI networks). Essentially they drop the WIFI connection, then if I manually reconnect everything is OK. For a while. This was very pronounced for the first month of operation, then it just stopped (for the first unit). So now things are good, but I was very annoyed for a while. I would love to see this issue fixed for others.
Pros: Attractive Design, Solid Build Quality, Good performance, Simple Controls
Cons: Ui Hangs If Net Down, Regular Reboots Needed, Flaky Wifi

Actually was shopping around for a long HDMI cord from my PC when somebody looked at me like I was nuts and said "Why don't you just get a Roku box?" Why indeed. Love it.
