I bought this so I could watch movies late at night when I can't sleep. A lot of the time though I cannot make a connection. Roku says it is my cable connection but I have had them out to my house several times that is NOT the problem. You also still have to pay for some new release movies. If you like quantity and not new dvd's you won't mind Roku.
Pros: Fast Setup
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Love using my Roku for music (Spotify, I heart radio), slinging video (plex), and Netflix.
Pros: Improved Audio/Video, Simple Controls, Attractive Design, Great quality, Fast Setup
Cons: Ui In Some Apps Is Janky

Slick design and powerfull features

I mostly use this product to stream movies and music from my PC using Plex which is pretty good. The streamming rely heavilly on your router so if you want to watch a 1080p movie through wifi make sure you have a proper bandwitdh. I sometime have to reboot the roku like 1-2 times a month otherwise plex isnt working.

Cons: Needs Reboot Sometime, Needs More Good Channel

For our limited needs (Pandora, Netflix)it works fine. Streaming quality is very good.
