The best ROKU yet!

I have had several ROKU units over the last year or so, the new ROKU 3 has performed extremely well (however, my ROKU 2 XS and XD also perform very well) and all models are great. In Canada we don't receive as many channels, but there are several that are excellent, Netflix of course, Youtube (finally), Sky News, Vevo, Bloomberg, TWIT, Vimeo, Revision 3, Crackle, TuneIn etc. It still needs more channels for us people North of the border, but fits in well with a cord cutting plan. I recently created a couple of my own private ROKU channels and can see great potential for this device in the future.

Bought the Roku3 in order to stream (Wireless) movies, etc. primarily from Netfix. The connection and setup was very easy to do and was completed in a short period of time. Picture quality is excellent, however the movies I have watched so far have ALL been in "Letter Box" format which I do not care for. Is this the standard format?

So many things to like about this player. Small and very easy to set up and use. I like being able to take with me when I travel...most hotels have wifi. Many free channels, the Netflix interface is new and much easier to use than the one on my blue ray player...I've recommended this to many of my friends...

Have been using the Roku 3 for a month and love it. Bought it to watch the Blaze TV and absolutely love it. Shows are left available to watch so if you miss a show live you can watch past shows.

Not Quite Ready for Prime Time

I bought a Roku 3 several weeks ago, and overall I have mixed feelings about it. I primarily use it to watch Netflix and Amazon Prime videos on my TV, and for that, it does an adequate job. However, there are several issues I have with the Roku's functionality: 1. Most of the worthwhile content (in my opinion) requires a paid subscription. The free channels are typically teasers, old and outdated content or things I have no interest in (like sports). Much of the network content is not available to me because my content provider is Comcast / Xfinity. 2. The on-screen keyboard is unpleasant to use, and it is not easy or intuitive finding things worth watching. Even at Netflix or Amazon Prime, the interface is less user-friendly than on their websites, and it is hard to scan content without doing specific searches. This is, of course, the fault of the content providers, not Roku.. but it still impacts a Roku's user experience. 3. The motion sensor on the remote is annoying, as it frequently flashes for no reason. This drains the batteries needlessly, and also activates the light on the Roku receiver, which can be annoying when you are trying to sleep. Bad design. 4. The Roku cannot be turned off, and as a result, the base unit often feels very warm to the touch. This cannot be a good thing for the lifespan of the electronic components within. 5. I have found no way to turn off the feedback sound effects that accompany on-screen selections, typing, etc. It the sound effects are cute at first, but get increasingly annoying, After several weeks, I just want to be able to navigate without sound effects.
I think Roku has potential, but it is not there yet. I have focused on the negative aspects because most other folks are discussing what they like. I figure potential buyers are better served by hearing the drawbacks, because the company and positive reviews already have told them what is GOOD about owning a Roku.

Cannot stream movies from local network without jumping through flaming hoops. Cannot play movies from micro sd.
It is a great netflix player. that's about it. I bought to replace my Apple TV and the Apple TV is still on the TV and Roku is now on a monitor above my treadmill.
So many apps want you to login from your cable provider. Forget that. Only A&E actually has a bunch of content. The issue is that stations limit content.
Which would be fine if I could stream from my PC. Nope. Put it on a USB okay but haven't really tried.
