Had a hard time setting it...

This is my second Roku 3. The first one turned to brick after lest than 1 month of usage. It freezed a few time during that period, but I managed to restart it without too much effort. And it went dead last week. I bought a second one at Staples last week because I like the Roku very much. I set it up in no time with my Roku account. But then, I switched it off one night and it wouldn't go pass the logo screen. Had to "hard reset" it like 10 times, unplug all cables, change the batteries of the remote, resync the remote... now its working again, but I won't shut it off again in fear it wont restart. I read somewhere that some problems are related to poorly designed applications, but since we don't have a clue of what's happening inside the Roku at boot time, this is very hard to troubleshoot.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Not suitable for Australia if you want Hulu / Netflix etc.

Roku unit is great but....

The Roku unit is an excellent concept and company delivered a good product that was very easy to install and worked well from the first. Onto software, entering identifiers on numerous online services is a slow and cumbersome process (no fault of Roku). The hook is the per episode/ pre view charging structure. Quickly realized that normal viewing resulted in total changes greater than high speed home cable. Again, no fault of Roku but that end point rapidly diminished my enthusiasm for the Roku experience. Great device but total charges make for a poor value.

I didn't really like it, or need it because I have a smart TV so I brought it back. It crashed several times in the short time that I had it and the loading screen music was horrible. I Just want my life back.

I shut off all of the services from my only cable provider due to increasing costs for their services and got the Roku 3 to help fill the gap for something to watch. I was expecting something different I guess. The free stuff is limited to 30sec or so blips with constant commercial interruptions. The pay channels do stream at a steady rate, but the cost for these varies per channels per month and can be significant depending on how many you order. Free trials vary per channel so you need to be prepared to keep a log on when your trial period expires. Not lots of options these days if you are not allowed to have satellite.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I bought this because I didn't have wi-fi built into my TV and had a Netflix account. The optional channels are fantastic but several are not forthcoming on charges and may lead you to believe it free content. I found adding the channels through your Roku account online to be much easier than through the device. I would recommend this to someone who may not want to pay cable or satellite charges.

I bought a Roku 2 one year ago and a Roku 3 kast month. It really connected you TV to the internet and can watch so many TV programs live and past. As long as you have a Wi-Fi in your house and all these programs are free. The installation is also very easy. Roku Custom support is very friendly. I highly recommend for this product.
