Unable to decode DD5.1 despite claim

I was baffled by the fact that the HDMI channels on my TV would lose sound. Until I narrowed the problem to attempting to watch movies with 5.1 sound. The Roku 3 signal causes an audible crackle on the TV and Receiver speakers which coincides with loss of audio. I believe the TV's HDMI controller is shutting down to protect itself against a voltage spike sent by the Roku 3 unit. I also have a PS3 which does not exhibit this issue playing 5.1 audio. Two factory resets have done nothing to resolve this issue. I have reverted back to using the PS3 for streaming video.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I purchased this 3 months ago and used it twice and each time it was difficult to use and the HELP was of no use.

Nearly everything I want to watch I have to enter some stupid code on my computer first. And I still have to put up with commercials! Anything that's half way decent to watch costs money! Roku2 doesn't have YouTube! Sorry, but I find this product totally useless.

It Would Be Illogical NOT To Have One!

A friend showed me his Roku 2 and I was so impressed with it my dad and my brother got one for Xmas 2013. The variety on this little device is incredible and it seems to perform well with most programs that I have on 'My Channel'. Because of the cost of cable/satellite, I only had a digital antenna on my plasma TV. The Roku obviously adds a lot more for minimum investment with the free channels, but allows the flexibility of paying for what YOU want to watch, i.e. pay movies, pay training, pay concerts. I'm a big movie fan and I do watch some of the news pods as well.  Affordable price, easy setup, easy support (via chat), and extended service if you need it. What more could a customer ask for? I love my Roku!

I have a Roku XD and was having some issues with the Plex Channel playing HD content. The new Roku 3 has a faster processor and now the Plex Channel playing content from my Plex Media Server is fantastic.

I am thrilled with my purchase of the Roku 3! At first I thought the idea of having headphones in the remote was a silly idea, now I wish I had that option on all of the remotes in the house! As always, content on the Roku is great!
