Roku 3 Love it!!!!

We bought the RoKu 3 about a month ago from several recommendations from friends and family. I had been looking into streaming players for a while but was not sure which was best for us. So far, we love it. I do want to say that a RoKu box is not full cable. It is a streaming player that lets you stream movies and TV shows from the internet to your TV (Amazon, Netflix, Hulu and a lot of others that are available for RoKu. We love the Christian channels. The only problem I am having now is to decide which type of digital antenna to get so that I can save some money in the future. I do wish that there were easier ways to search. :)

poor file support for attaching usb drive

One of the reasons I purchased this unit was to attach a drive via the usb port. However, be warned, only MP4 is supported, so you need to convert all your files to MP4 or Roku will not recognize the file. This is a huge hassle if, like most people, your video files are mostly AVI. The program Handbrake does a good job of this but it is very time consuming.

Perfect In Every Way

I absolutely love my Roku, so much so after a few months we bought a second one for the TV in the basement. We primarily use it for Netflix and Amazon streaming but also use it for other stations. The streaming quality is superb and the interface is clean, fast and intuitive. It has changed the way we use our TVs and set a standard for consumer products that is rivaled only by Apple.

Headphones in remote nice idea!

Other than the time consuming process of the initial setup time with all the different vendors this product works great! The added feature of the headphones in the remote was the one feature that made roku the choice over other devices. I'm sure the time consuming process of setting up accounts with vendors is the same for all these devices though.Now I just need to figure out how to change the video feature on the u-verse remote so I don't have to walk to the tv to switch from cable to roku...

I bought this for my spouse and 3year old son because it seemed to have a lot to offer. That is an understatement. There are so many great channels and tons of free channels. This was an unexpected surprise that we all love it so much. I recommend it to anyone looking for lots of entertainment for the whole family. 100 times better than Apple TV or Chromecast. Very worth the money. Can't say enough good things about this device.

Best Thing Since Sliced Bread!

I live in a very rural area of northern Michigan. I have to drive an hour to a video store or pay big bucks to watch pay for view movies on satellite TV. Recently our county installed a Wi-Fi tower to give us hicks high-speed internet. I had heard about Roku on a talk show so I went to Sams Club and got a great deal on a Roku 3. I am now able to watch up more movies than I have time on Netflix and other providers for a low monthly fee. I have access to the same movies and channels that urban dwellers have. It was easy to install and is simple to use.

We've been running the Roku 3 for the last month after deciding to end our cable television service through Time Warner and couldn't be happier.
Aesthetics: (5/5) The device is small enough that it can be concealed very easily within almost any stand or cabinet. However, it is also sleek and clean in appearance and in no way detracts from the setup like the gigantic cable box w/ DVR does.
App Offerings and Integration: (5/5) This is why you buy Roku! Amazon, Netflix, Hulu, Youtube are all represented as you'd expect but there are literally dozens of other solid free and premium "channels" available.
Performance: (4/5) If I'm being honest there is some room for improvement in the UI for several of the apps (Youtube, ESPN, and Spotify to name a few). However, the performance is at least on par with other streaming options (Xbox 360/One, Smart Tv, etc.).
Total: (4.5/5) If you're in the market and want something that just plain works and is easy to use this is what you should buy...period.

No more cable!

We bought the Roku 3 to get rid of an outrageous cable bill. We should have done it sooner!
We are not missing TV and feel more in control of what we watch and when we watch it...
