There should be a way to play media files from PC on Roku, similar to using those apps for mobile devices. Would be even better to have a full size SD card reader and backlit remote control.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I think device is fair enough, but has unused potential. In example missing features like mirecast or DLAN support. Also youtube should be easily available!

Just a wonderful streaming device. Very `open`. Audio and video quality exceptional. So easy to set up and use.

I was using a boxee but one of my favorite apps stopped supporting boxee, so I needed to get something that my favorite app would support. I presumed all of these little boxes at the electronics store were the same, so I settled on the mid-range Roku 3 for $129. It was only when I got it home and looked closely I realized that the Roku 3 had no web browsing capabilities. It also didn't have a youtube app because they didn't know how to get a licensing agreement with Google. On the other hand, the roku works; it's easy to set up. It also supports netflix, which boxee didn't. Something else, too, that I thought was bad - there are a ton of "free" movie apps on the roku, but they are really terrible. They're actually ad delivery platforms disguised as movie apps. They will play a "free" movie, but then every eight minutes they will run a thirty-second advertisement. At first you think it's not so bad but then every eight minutes you're reminded of how much you are being ripped off by having an advertisement forced on you. I've got a Netflix subscription, so I don't need those movie apps so much. If you're into it, Roku also supports a bunch of other popular pay-movie apps like Hulu and Netflix and Redbox. It works, and it's easy to set up but I miss being able to get on the internet.
