Great idea. Lots of hassles.

I bought the Roku mainly to connect a new TV so I could watch Netflix--didn't need 1000 channels! It has a hard time staying connected to Wi-Fi--needs to be rebooted constantly (yes, signal strength shows as strong). Also, the batteries in the remote ran out every two days or so until I read on some blog that leaving the headphones plugged in will do that--hasn't been much of a problem since, but would be nice if that rather obvious glitch could have been fixed. Also, the remote freezes up ALL THE TIME! In the middle of a show, I will have to take the batteries out to reset it before it will start to respond again. About 10% of the time, pulling the batteries won't unfreeze the remote, so have to unplug the cables and reboot the whole Roku (weird there's no power switch). So, it's great when it works, but is quite a hassle.
I would recommend this to a friend!

A shame for the price

Not as advertised

will not work on wi-fi as advertised. sound drops out for 4-6 secs at a time, screen flashes about every 8-10 secs. tried 2 diff units, also most of the offered channels require paid subscription. got a refund.

Won't stream NETFLIX or HBOGO

I bought a Roku 3 last spring to replace an older Roku 2 XD and get the better remote and interface. Unfortunately, it just doesn't work on any of the popular services. Netflix hung or streamed only at low resolution. HBOGo hung and hangs to this day. Amazon Prime stutters and shifts to low resolution. We have Verizon FiOS at 50 down/25 up and excellent wired and wireless connections, so that's not the problem. Sucker just doesn't work. Don't waste your money.

Lack of parental controls

The only major flaw is the lack of parental controls on the Roku itself. You need to upgrade that so the unit can be controlled. Wont recommend it to anyone with children because of that.

I like to use the netflix as I don't have any game systems to do it. Hulu is awesome too.
Pros: Compact, Easy to set up, High quality picture, Easy to use, Great value, Built in Wi-Fi
Cons: A little slow loading

How do they keep making the Roku better?

Purchased a Roku 3 for another TV to complement my well used Roku 2 XS I use in the family room. I've already moved the Roku 3 to that prime spot! The new Roku is super fast! Navigating around, searching, starting streams, searching in streams, and resuming them is just plain faster. The new UI is great too. Much easier to bounce around between channels and the main menu. The new search function is great, works well in the new interface and makes it easier to find movies and shows I am interested in. It's amazing how difficult that is on my DirecTV box, so Roku may set a new standard here.
Pros: Reliability, Easy to use, Easy to set up, Video selection, High quality picture, Built in Wi-Fi
