I purchased the Roku3 with the intentions of watching local channels. I received mainly Spanish channels and when I try to view movies, it's constantly loading the video. I don't watch much television and with Roku3, I still don't.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I got the roku 3 for Christmas, after plugging it in was disappointed. Paid nearly a hundred dollars to find find out I needed to pay more money to watch a lot of the programming that I have found online for free.

A lot of channels require cable

I wanted to get a roku because I wanted to cut the cable. I thought it had many of the network apps which it does, but most require cable for the channels to be activated. What a waste. This product is good if you want to use it for paid hulu or netflix. Get a bluray player with this applications and save your money. Roku needs to see the bread and butter of the future and get away from cable.

I have Amazon Prime and found it inconvenient to hook up my laptop, and some speakers (couldn't hear otherwise) to watch a movie and wanted to go wireless. I saw a review in Money magazine about several different devices to stream internet on TV. Roku was recommended for use with Amazon Prime. I reviewed the ratings and comments on Amazon before purchasing and I'm delighted with this. It was easy to hook up and the remote basically programmed itself. I've had absolutely no trouble with this and I'm happy I made the purchase.

I bought it and then returned it. The Roku3 was duplicating what I was already receiving from my smart TV, Apple TV and my DVD player applications.

Way better than my AppleTV console!

I bought this a month ago and I would definitely recommend it over my Apple TV console. With this I can do things that my apple tv doesn't such as; set up closed captioning, wear earplugs for listening, fast-forward to the exact moment I want to play. Its been well thought out. You won't be disappointed if you have ever had anything less.

Did not know about the monthly fees for most of the channels, and my cable provider was not on the list so could not even sign up for some of the channels.
