i got this a month ago and expected to see live shows like from nbc, cbs, abc, pbs, etc. but all i can watch are really old films that are not even hd quality. would have given this 5 stars if those channels were available. now i hardly use it.

Does not work with Netflix!!!

Overall this little device looks and is awesome. It has some nice features. The little "remote control" works great. However, the ONLY reason i purchased the Roku, is to watch Netflix. It always "buffers", signal goes out, it tells me to pick something else to watch, etc. etc. etc. There is NOTHING wrong with my internet connection, or Netflix for that matter. I can watch Netflix fine through other means, such as my laptop.
Believe me, i looked at all the technical forums out there and tried everything. 
Sorry Roku for the bad review.

Doesn't play anything through DNLA, poor Plex performance: needs transcoding for everything. No Netflix support. Waste of money.

Doesn't Really Meet My Expectations

I thought this was going to be a viable alternative to my expensive cable service, but I learned after buying this product that I still need at least basic cable TV and the cable company's app to get "live" TV. Also, when we're watching TV using this product, the sound suddenly goes off and we have to change to a different channel and then back again to restore the sound and continue watching the show.
My intention was to get rid of all the expensive leased equipment from the cable company and set up our three TVs with Roku devices, but I have serious doubts about this now. I'm just going to try to reduce our cable bill some other way.

I have been playing with the ROKU for about 2 months now. It is easy enough to set up on the wifi, and the remote is simple, maybe too simple (you have to use it as a cursor to input usernames and passwords).
Unfortunately, that's about it for good points. It has very limited applications, most or which are useless. NETFLIX is installed, but I cannot log onto Netfilx with it for some reason, so I signed up for HULU plus. I did have success with HULU Plus, BUT am not impressed. The "free" TV is limited to mostly older episodes with 3 or 4 commercials in a row, and you have to pay to watch a decent movie or series. '
 Too bad, I was expecting to be able to ditch Direct TV.
 If they would add some applications and a remote with a keyboard and fix the NETFLIX application, PLUS add the Blaze News TV and FOX News. it might make the thing worth while.

hdcp unathorized access, content disabled

I was happy at the beginning but now I get the error "hdcp unathorized access, content disabled". I haven't changed anything and have had no problems for over a month. I have tried all the troubleshooting but nothing has fixed it. This would stop me from recommending this box to anybody else.

I bought this a month ago, and love having Netflix on my TV. Angry Birds is also a plus to entertain the kids. I chose this device over others because it offered HBO Go, but was saddened when I learned that my cable provider didn't allow me to use it. Don't know which company is responsible for this, but it should be changed. Not fair to deny me the service when I subscribe to HBO same as anyone else.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Selected Roku 3 in the store since it displayed that all of the streaming apps I required would be available.  HBO-Go is not available if your provider is DirecTV.  
While other apps were available the main reason for selected this device was HBO-Go.
