Pros: Lots of channels, simple interface, unified search
Cons: -Not clear which channels are searched (example, Silver Linings Playbook was available on Showtime anytime, but did not turn up in results, need to experiment more to understand it. -Can't route some things through the Home Theater and an HDMI switch - it's works for a lot of stuff, but couldn't stream Hunger Games SD through both, so, make sure you've got enough HDMI ports (again, need to experiment more). -Screen casting doesn't work with my HTC m7 - was kind of hoping it would.
Bottom Line: I bought this to use as a plug an play device, not to spend more time experimenting. I would have kept messing with the HTPC if I wanted to experiment.

I bought three of these units for the kids and they love them. No more staring at their little hand held devices to watch NetFlix or YouTube.

I received the Roku 3 as a Christmas present. I had originally requested an Apple TV. I had previously had experience with the Apple TV and thought it would be a better purchase. But, after reading reviews I took a leap of faith with getting the Roku 3. And it has been more than I could have imagined! It is easy to set up and work, and I love the games that are available as well. I have been very happy with this gift!

We now have two Rokus in the house and we recently got one as a present for our (grown) son. Some newer TVs come with Roku functions built-in (possibly designed by Roku), but most TVs are the older models and you need something like Roku to get content from the Web. I am VERY pleased with our Rokus. They're easy to set up and easy to use. I've had no problems with any of them. As an aside, I am negotiating with my wife to get us detached from the cable company - keeping broadband Ethernet (you need that for the Roku to work). We have found that there is a *plethora* (remember the movie The Three Amigos?) of high quality content available from Web companies - much more than you can get from the cable companies. And the cable companies are migrating to the Web (Sling TV - where you can get ESPN, TBS online, HULU, soon HBO, and others). The only drawback, and it's a minor one, is that I would like to be able to access the movies, music, and other stuff I've got on a Windows Share in my house. You can hook a disk drive to the Roku, but if you've got a bunch of stuff on a server, it's more cumbersome. Still, I've got a media player that does that (and not much more), so it's not a problem. I recommend the Roku - even if you plan to keep your cable connection. There's more good stuff out there than you have time in your life to see.

Unexpected bonus - playing videos!

The Roku 3 is an amazing piece of work. It is FAR faster connecting to Netflix that any of my other media boxes (Sony, WD, Samsung.) It has the "Who's Watching" option, which my older players do not, saving so multiple watch lists are supported.
But the amazing thing is the video from my computer. The specs imply you can only watch mp4s, but if you just wait awhile, everything shows up, and almost all of it plays flawlessly.
And of course, the headphones in the remote is a real bit of genius!
Now if you could just get the USB port to play the same range of videos as the Media Browser. AND, add a self-timer, so the unit will disconnect after a preset time, in case I fall asleep (Netflix will just keep loading new episodes and run up my cable bill...)
One more thing - a way to find content again - there is SO much available, where is that movie I wanted to see?

Our son gave this Roku to us for Christmas. We enjoy using it and it works well except that the method for entering information, e.g. passwords is cumbersome and annoying.

For the second time in a month the remote failed. Reset new batteries, JUNK. Otherwise it works. My other older model has never had a problem. I will be returning it for full refund and move on. Great concept, junk quality control on their hardware. I am not going to waste another hour trying to fix the obvious that there is a major problem with your remotes.
