I love the speed, and all the channel options. I only wish I could surf the internet. I bought it to replace my Wii and it is better in Alot of ways, BUT I miss being able to surf the web on my tv

We picked up our roku 3 for a family present for Christmas.
PROS it was super simple to set up.
Fast buffering times

CON. Yes there is a con but only one. There is no power on\off however it does go into sleep mode when inactive
recommended accessories- we also got the mount so we could hide it behind the TV

I have been encouraged by my son for a long time to purchase a Roku 3, but I've been hesitant. He finally broke down and bought us one for Christmas, and we LOVE it! Best present ever!
Setup was a total no brainer and we were up and running in a very short time. The interface is clean, uncluttered and intuitive. It was a very simple matter to browse and add channels. And the selection of FREE channel is massive. I believe you could view nearly anything you search for without ever having to pay for a single channel. And those that you may wish to buy are insanely inexpensive. Usually less than two dollars for a subscription.
In the past, the only way we were able to stream video ~ other than what cable provides ~ to our bedroom TV was to download the video to a Web cloud service, download that video to our mini computer in the bedroom and play it from there. This was very cumbersome, time-consuming and the quality was hit or miss. Playing video this way was usually laggy and quite often froze the computer completely.
Using the Roku 3 wireless settings, all of these issues have disappeared. Load times are reduced to seconds, the video is of very high quality and never choppy or laggy. In the event we ever need to stream video from our desktop computer to the Roku, there is a FREE preloaded channel called PLEX. Installing the same free applet to your computer turns your computer into a server that you can load the videos of your choice and stream them wirelessly to the Roku with the same high quality. There is also a free applet that turns your smart phone into a Roku remote.
The Roku 3 has allowed us to reduce our cable subscription costs by hundreds of dollars a year. We now only have to maintain a very basic set of channels to access our premium movie channels from the Roku.
If there were anything negative to say about the Roku 3, it would be that it does not include an HDMI cable, which is required for installation. But considering the Roku can be purchased for less than a hundred dollars and can save you thousands, this is a total non issue for me.
I highly recommend the Roku 3 for anyone wanting to reduce their cable or satellite costs without compromising their viewing preferences. Setup is fast and easy, the box itself has a very small footprint and the cost is nominal. Just can't say enough good things about it.

Best way to get away from cable providers

We broke up with our cable provider a few years ago and it has been the best decision ever. We were using game systems for a while to access streaming services and amazing how much better using the Roku is in every way. Only bummer is some services don't have easy access straight through Roku like Redbox or Starz. Well worth it!

Easy Setup

I got this for Christmas from my brother, the techie in the family. I thought it was going to be a long and tedious setup, glad to say, I was wrong! Super fast set up and so user friendly my 3 year old can use the remote! Not to mention all the FREE movies, shows, cartoons, educational channels we get! It is so worth the money!
