Does not meet expectations

Bought around two months ago. Fortunately I have a Netflix account (and Amazon) because of which the device is of some use. I dont plan to subscribe to Hulu plus or HBO Go etc. Thus, the only other interesting channel is Vevo. I have downloaded a couple of listed and unlisted channels and find that they are either no longer available, have hardly any content, or are duplicate of already existing content in Netflix etc. The only reason I would recommend this is for the nice usability, but that is not worth spending $100 on. BTW the system crashed a couple of times already. Also updating the channel list is such a pain.

Netflix browsing was very slow on my Blu-ray, but the ROKU-3 is very fast. It buffers the video and gives a better picture on DSL Don't like leaving it powered on all the time. Don't like it broadcasting a wireless connection by default. Be prepared to create an account with a credit card. I just bought it to stream Netflix, Pandora and Youtube. Roku shouldn't require a credit card before I can do that.

Nice but not without its limitations

Some nice features and channels; however, I detest the way many of the news stations, for instance, have their broadcasts broken up into many small clips, which aren't even in order of the original broadcast.
Additionally (and this is almost a deal-breaker), why are certain stations, like HBO Go, Fox and History Channel not permissioned for use on Roku if you are a Comcast Xfinity subscriber, when these channels work fine and can be used on other platforms (e.g., iOS, Android) by Comcast subscribers?! Comcast is the largest cable system in the US...this needs to be corrected between Roku, Comcast and whatever other parties!!!

Disappointed

I am very disappointed in this and am not convinced it is worth purchasing. It is difficult to stream from anything other than approved "roku" channels and if one were to pay for channels comparable to what one can get with cable, the roku service would be twice as expensive. I'm hoping that a better, multi-purpose device arrives soon.

I bought a Roku because it claimed to offer CNBC and Fox Business channels. I did find those two channels however they contain nothing but old news clips ranging from day old to year old. Yes, Roku do have lots of channels of a variety of contents but they are nothing that I can't find in Youtube, Hulu, Vudu or many other websites. Roku also claimed that it has lots of movie channels but they all require a pay membership to watch anything half decent. If you think you can watch your favorite TV series, sitcoms and movies on Roku for free, you will be disappointed.
Let me sum it up this way, if you know how to find stuffs on the web, you don't need Roku. My Roku is just sitting mostly idle next to my netbook both hooked up to my big screen TV via HDMI. I still prefer to use my netbook via my wireless keyboard and move to surf the web to get my contents from my couch.

Biggest downside is most channels lack content and since it lacks direct access to the internet through a search engine such as Google it isn't great.. the best use of all these media streamers is through Amazon Prime which has the most content without charging an arm and a leg for each and every show.. as hardware it is okay..
