A Powerful Tool, But It Doesn't Do Everything

My family surprised me with the Roku as a gift. It meant I didn't research it to know what it is and isn't capable of, so I threw myself into it. The good news is that I've been pleasantly surprised at its capabilities, from allowing me to access pre-existing subscriptions The bad news is it doesn't do everything - I still can't access local stations without an antenna, and given where we live the reception isn't worth the investment. Still, the Roku keeps me busy with plenty of options. I'd heartily recommend it to anyone looking for a simple solution to all your streaming needs.

Get Cable tv first

Not worth it without cable, free content is mostly 2 minute clips. It constantly pauses, trying to reload the show while watching.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I've had if for about two months and just love it! I streme Netflix and Hulu as well as media from my PC. Very easy to setup and use.

A suggestion

It would be nice to be able to do a search for a particular channel when using the Roku to access my cable account. Otherwise, I'm quite happy.
Incidentally, I find that frequently I get an error message when accessing my cable provider (Time-Warner Cable). A search of bulletin boards suggest this is a common problem--and that this error message ONLY occurs on TWC. I suppose considering the number of subscribers looking to "cut the cord", I can easily understand why TWC wouldn't want to make things easier.

Best Choice of ANY Streaming Media Player!

I purchased my Roku 3 player as a birthday gift to myself and couldn't have been more pleased. I spent months researching potential media streaming devices, and it was not a fun process. I'm a die hard Apple user, but the Apple TV OS is far too laggy and outdated, and much like all the other streaming media devices I researched, there was no method to import external media to stream onto the player. I mean, what is this, 2004? The Amazon and Google options were laughable at absolue best, and a total joke at absolute worst. The most amazing part of the Roku player, which I was unaware of prior to setup, is that you can stream what you're watching on YouTube, Netflix, etc. on your iPhone or iPad totally seamlessly. So, if you're an Apple user, don't fret. There is no better product out there, in my honest opinion, and I feel like Roku is decades ahead of the competition in the streaming media game. Zero complaints. If you're a heavy media consumer like myself, stop hesitating and buy the device. I promise, you'll not be disappointed.
