I was really excited and did my research. I love the headphone jack in the remote- which also has enough buttons for my older parents to know what they are pressing- the selection displays and themes, & the remote is actually of a size that it won't be swallowed by your couch!! But I mostly love how well it connected to the wi-fi in a rather large house where even my laptop is iffy at times. I also love the multiple digi-media reading slots (USB, SD card) that can be used to show pictures from your camera, a presentation saved on your flash drive, etc. HOWEVER, since there is no browser option, you need to purchase subscription channels or pay per episode (PBS, for example), although the same content streams for free from their website right to your mobile device. I had an appleTV in my other apartment, & never realized how much I used the air-play option until I didn't have it with R3. There are servers that can be installed, and I bought the iPhone app, but at this point it was just getting annoying, and the server streams content STORED on your device (correct me if I am wrong). So, for example... let's say you're sitting on your couch, trolling The Facebooks, and you come across a video of oh-the-cutest-little-kittens that is 10 minutes long, you don't want to sit there looking at the little screen while your friends are trying to look over your shoulder. So you want to toss it and display on your huge plasma TV.. too bad. That made me sad. For this SOLE reason, I returned R3 and went back to appleTV because it works better for all of us GenY'ers who are mediaphiles already ingrained in the seamless process of the Apple environment. I would DEFINITELY recommend this product to others as long as air-drop is not an issue, or they have PC's not Macs, and will definitely buy it for those transitioning into the cable-free digital life friendly world: my parents.... even if you cannot bluetooth a wireless keyboard to it, you can use the one on your smartphone remote! Good luck, guys.

Roku Unready for Review

Our Roku has been set up since early January but has yet to provide us with any entertainment. It appears that our wireless router does not provide a strong enough signal to activate the Roku. The signal is strong enough to operate one desktop computer, one printer, one laptop, one iPad, and two Nokia phones, but can't seem to get the Roku a signal. One of these days we will no doubt go to the trouble and expense of replacing our newly purchased router with one more powerful. Until then, no Roku for us. Perhaps we will just give it away.

I finally decide to replace my old Roku and picked up the 3 and honestly, you can put a headphone jack in the remote but couldn't be bothered to add any type of audio jack to the actual box? Returning it as I'm not wasting my time completely reporting my entire HT just to accommodate a poorly designed box.

I got Roku as a gift and it's the best! I can watch or buy movies, listen to music through my TV (which is louder than my iHome), and play games one it! It's perfect for a college student like me!

I had to use the reset button once and it broke off inside the box - resetting is necessary and should be easier to do. Returned it immediately.
Also way too many offerings ... slasher movies, b class offerings cluttering up the quality offerings.
Headphones jack on the remote ... WHY?
Registering Roku locks you in and is too restrictive.

Love the device not sure about the networks

I bought mine after Christmas.... Love the Plex....and i use my netflix and amazon prime. I wish the network aps offered full episodes even at a nominal fee would be fine like SYFY or FX I work for a private ISP and sat. tv provider and i have sold numerous internet accounts encouraging people to get a ruko I did by one for each or my kids too

Great alternative or addition to cable

I'm still learning this thing, but we really like the variety of channels we can get including a lot of the christian channels our cable provider didn't offer. We also love the kids channels so they can watch their cartoons whenever they want.
