An improvement over the original model.

I bought the "3" thinking that the earbuds would allow me to compensate for my failing hearing while other could also listen through the TV and sound system speakers. Unfortunately, that is not the case. However, the newer model is worth the upgrade for its enhanced performance - no freezing, a better user interface and smooth fast forward.
I would recommend this to a friend!

This technology is just amazing. We purchased (2) Roku 3's and subscribed to Netflix and Amazon Prime about a month ago and can't believe that we have been living in the dark ages without streaming up to now.
They are super simple to configure and use. Especially like the headphone jack option. We also downloaded the Roku app so that we can use our iPhones as remotes, sweet.
Had to reconfigure our surround sound system a little bit, found diagrams on the Roku website that demystified the process.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Pros:
Great selection of streaming channels, interface is easy to use. Excellent video quality and bandwidth (very few interruptions due to empty buffer). Hits the right price point for such a device. Controllable by TCP/IP for networked A/V system remote controllers like iRule.

Cons:
HDMI handshaking in a modern A/V system is touchy. This is the only device in the system that frequently loses HDCP authorization. The Apple TVs, cable boxes, Blu-ray players, A/V receivers, TV monitors, etc in our systems all connect by HDMI perfectly and never lose authorization.

Could use analog audio outputs for devices in receiver zones that do not support HDMI. RCA jacks or TOSlink would work.

I constantly have to reboot the Roku 3 for it to work, so it's kind of annoying. Sometimes the apps will freeze up. I use my PS4 for streaming when I have guests over but the Roku 3 uses less electricity. The screen mirroring is a joke and looks horrible.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I love watching my shows on Roku!!, and not to mention movies...I can finally adjust my hi-def tv to my personal preference, it looks amazing... (best picture ever) seriously.....
