Easy & fast. Best streaming device!

I had a streaming Blu-Ray but it was slow. Roku is simple to set up and small (so it's portable). I bought the Roku 3 because I have a lot of movies stored on my computer and I wanted to be able to use a flash drive. It's super-fast, there are tons of channels (I mostly use Netflix, Hulu Plus, and TED) and my favorite surprise feature was that you can search ALL installed channels. For example, you can search by actor and Roku will show you their filmography - then you select a movie and it will show you all the different channels that movie is available on (and how much they cost, if you aren't subscribed to, say, Netflix). This feature saves a lot of time. The remote is simple and I love the "back 7 seconds" button. I use that when my roommates talk over something important! Also, on occasion the remote gets buried in the couch, but there is a phone app you can use, which is awesome. You can even tell it which channel to start up right off the bat (ex. Netflix). Such a cool product! Honestly one of the best $100 purchases of my life.

Almost replaces cable TV !

Lots of interesting channels (more than any other streaming player), both official and private. Easy to use, good interface - easy to navigate. YouTube recently added. Search capabilities for artist, film title immediately redirecting to the appropriate channel.. Both wired and wireless connection to LAN. Worth $100. Only minuses: no OFF switch (always ON), commercials (not really annoying) displayed, but only when navigating, never during playback.

Some apps better than others; search unreliable

We quit regular TV and subscribed to Amazon Prime and HuluPlus. Roku itself is an OK device, but the apps determine how good your experience is and they're all different and uneven. Some remember where you left off others don't. Some put your favorites front and center, others make them hard to find, yet others have no such feature at all. Half the shows we used to watch on cable are for pay even with Amazon Prime subscription.
Unless Roku starts to somehow curate the apps using will remain too annoying and less predictable.

Too Many Ad's and Interruptions

I began when the first Roku's came out and then upgraded to the Roku-2XS. I enjoyed watching Netflix via the Roku and listening to various music channels. Then the Roku-3 came out and they upgraded (as they called it) ALL the Menu's. Ever since April 2013 when they upgraded my Roku's software/menu... I can be listening to nice music and suddenly it stops. Why? Roku pushes some ad. I can be in the middle of a Netflix movie and right in the middle the Roku stops then restarts with the Roku words jumping on the screen... then it goes back to the main menu. I have to click on Netflix again and then "resume" playing the movie. I HATE THIS! How do I know this is ONLY done by Roku. Here's how: 1) I can use my OPPO 103-D to watch Netflix or YouTube and this NEVER happens. I can use my Panasonic BluRay player to watch Netflix or YouTube and this NEVER happens. I can use my Vizio TV to watch Netflix or YouTube and this NEVER happens. Yes, I know Roku does not support YouTube but I'm specifically talking about Netflix. I can also use these other devices to listen to Pandora or iTunes and this NEVER happens. I've written Roku about it in the past and they just don't care. So this is why I WILL NEVER UPGRADE TO ROKU-3. If they can't treat their ORIGINAL customers with respect... the customers who began with them as I did and made them into a success... then I also don't care about them. Secondly the new Bluray players and TV's all have native support for Netflix and YouTube (which Roku doesn't support), and many other so-called "Channels." And, as for Roku glorying in all the "Channels" it supports... most of them are JUNK! I don't need a jillion Religious channels. With the exception of the Texas Hold 'Em poker game and Angry Birds... I don't care about their games. I don't care about Crackle and all the other so-called FREE channels as they push MORE ad's per minute than the video's! I tried watching some of these channels and every 7 minutes there were ad-after-ad-after-ad and most of the ad's REPEAT! With all this said, I hardly use my Roku anymore and now I just don't care. Roku guys... DON'T BE SO GREEDY!

Got the Roku on a Thanksgiving deal and i thought I might use it lightly since I primarily use Netflix and Pandora on my smart HDTV and Bluray and now Chromecast. But guess what, i like using Netflix on the Roku just because its so easy to use. The picture and sound quality is great and the plethora of channels has led me to cancel my HDTV subscription from Comcast. The only channel I miss right now is HGTV in a HD quality mode. Perhaps that will also be released soon. All in all, this device is used for hours each day to source different videos or music. Very happy!

...not exactly, but streaming with Roku is what I do more and more when I'm relaxing on the couch. The quality of the stream is first rate; I have the Roku connected to my AVR receiver and the sound is exceptional. I definitely love my Roku.

Awesome Performance - Slingbox just okay

This is my first Roku and I am totally sold on it. The performance, ease of use, and number of channels is exceptional. I use it more than I use anything for my living room TV. The performance on Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, etc. is exceptional. I love it. My only complaint is the Slingbox channel. This is a bit of a kluge. You have to launch the Slingbox from your phone/tablet through iOS or Android. Then you have to pass control to the Roku. This works most of the time, but half the time my phone can't find the Roku to transfer it to. The performance of the Slingbox app is also so..so. I have two Slingboxes, one that is two years old and one that I just bought. The old version will rarely get up to HD quality. The new one is better, but there are times it does not get to HD either. I don't know if this is the Roku or the Slingbox channel app. I am guessing the latter. So I would give Roku 5 Stars if the Slingbox app worked better, but that said, everything else is awesome.
