Have to take the batteries out of the remote control after each use or they will die whit in a week. And then have to reset the box every time or I won't be able to use it, very frustrating, never had any issue with the earlier model.
Cons: Difficult setup
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

The only way to get 5.1 sound is to connect the HDMI out of the Roku directly to a digital receiver. All my other devices (Tivo, Google TV) connect to my TV via HDMI cable and pass 5.1 sound through to my receiver via digital out optical cable. I do not always have or want my receiver on when I watch streaming or live video. Unfortunately, the only way to find this out is the hard way, going through the hassle of purchase, hookup and return of the Roku since this information was not published anywhere else at the time I purchased.
Pros: Small
Cons: Does Not Improve Audio/Video
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

1. To see e.g. Scandal you must purchase 2 subscriptions 2. To see So You Think You Can Dance, you must purchase 3 subscriptions 3. Set up still not complete. Input new programs and searches are major hassle.
Pros: Simple Controls, Fast Setup
Cons: Not enough news, Most Movies Very Old, Poor Channels Access

Disappointed

I bought the Roku 3 hoping it would be an improvement over the Roku HD that I had. With the Roku HD, I almost always had buffering and a blurry picture with Netflix and Amazon content that was supposed to be high definition. Oddly, I never had these issues with my game console, so I had to chalk it up to the Roku HD. I tried powering it down and "restarting" it, resetting my router, wiring it to my network (30Mb/s), etc. Nothing worked. When the 3 was introduced, I thought I'd give it a try. Having moved, I was now with a different ISP (also with 30Mb/s service), and nothing's changed. I have two other media streaming devices connected to the same home network (all wired, by the way, to a brand-new, dual-band router), and while these two devices seem to work just fine, the Roku 3's image quality is consistently inconsistent across multiple services -- Netflix, Amazon, Crackle... Thinking about it now, I'm not sure why I bothered, other than being a tech junkie. Money spent. Money wasted.
Pros: Fast Setup, Simple Controls
Cons: Does Not Improve Audio/Video
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Did not work out of the box. Returned to Best Buy and they could not make it work when connected to one of their TVs. At at that point I lost confidence in Roku and got my credit and left!
