I was looking for a way to take the place of satellite tv. I bought the roku 3 because of the access of apps to various FREE tv shows and movie channels.
Once I set it up and started checking out what was available, just about everything I tried to watch turned out needed a subscription.

The Roku is very easy to install and operate. It is wonderful if you love movies. There are zillions of selections.....however, they are not free. I was under the impression when buying the Roku that there was tons and tons of free stuff available. There is free entertainment, however, most has to be paid for--some is very minimal, some much more expensive than going to the cinema. However, I do love having this piece of technology in my home.
I would recommend this to a friend!

It works very well but I am highly disappointed with the available content. Was expecting thousands of channels like was advertised but what you get is hundreds of channels with the same content on each most with commercials. Also tv shows not available unless you are a subscriber to a cable or satellite company which defeats the purpose of have a tv streamer. Netflix works very well but my tv did that already anyway.

I bought this unit over a month ago now and it does seem to have Heat issues. when I leave it powered up around the clock the unit stop responding and needs to be powered off in order to work properly.
I would recommend this to a friend!

The picture quality isn't always good and it has a hard time staying connected to wifi which is less than 5' away.

Roku 3 refurbished

We bought the Roku 3 refurbished about a year ago and it has been fantastic. Our main reason to buy was to get closed captioning support for Netflix. (Our Sony TV had a Netflix client but could not support closed captioning.)
Another great feature is the ability to search for content at the home screen which searches all of your services.
Highly recommend it.
