Unit Unreliable
on August 5, 2013

I bought this because it was wireless, but had constant problems. Cannot wake the unit, must unplug to reset - must take batteries out of remote, etc. Roku said it was my wifi channel - needed channel 11. Changed network to channel 11 - still had constant problems. Exchanged the unit - same problems. Then I hardwired the unit and it was fine for 1 week - now the same problems. I cannot recommend this to anyone - I am so disappointed and frustrated.
Pros: Attractive Design
Cons: Poor Design, Must Unplug Everyday, Does Not Improve Audio/Video
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Save your money and buy Roku LT

I love my Roku LT and wanted a second unit for another room. Decided to get Roku 3 because of the headphone, which is a feature that I like and works well. The problem with Roku 3 is that it overheats and it randomly stops working. I cannot leave it plugged in because the unit gets very hot. So I have to unplug it and plug it in when I want to use it, which is annoying and can't use it more than about 2 hours because it will stop working. My Roku LT never gets hot and I've had it plugged in for over a year. The earphone is nice but I should've saved my money and just bought another Roku LT.
Pros: Great Headphone, Simple Controls, Fast Setup, Attractive Design
Cons: The Roku 3 Overheats, Poor Design, Does Not Improve Audio/Video

Missing audio output jack on main unit.

My existing Roku 2 XD has an audio output jack that I use to feed to my audio system. That way, I can listen to internet radio without leaving the TV on. (Of course, I have to use the TV to select the station.)
The main reason we upgraded was so we could watch the PBS and Acorn channels. Why can't these channels operate with older Rokus? Is this just a marketing ploy?

This player has the exact same films available on apple tv. No variety or access to quality classic or contemporary films. The grainy picture quality also makes my expensive tv look bad. There is no value in this product and I wish I could return it

We bought the Roku hoping to not have to buy an additional internet box. The exercise channels that are "free" are not. The free ones are poor quality and the hunting "free" channels are not. The free ones are people talking not hunting. We even had 3 sets of our neighbors over to see the Roku and it was a bust. I was embarrassed I had bought it. Very frustrating.

This player (ROKU 3) Requires activation (Name - Email - Phone Number) and a credit card to be kept on file at ROKU. Even submitting this review requires identification. ROKU does not need my credit card number. Or yours. You buy a device for use of that device. Credit card information and other personnel information that belongs to you, the consumer, is your decision to hand out. If you choose to subscribe to Netflix, or Amazon Direct, they already have your Credit Card number and other personnel information. ROKU does not need it. Ladies and Gentlemen, our personal information is worth something. All companies want it. Please be aware before you use your hard earned money on this device that this is the case. Competitors like the W/D Live (which I also own) does not require Activation or your Credit Card Number.

Phenomenal!

I recently upgraded from the Roku LT to the Roku 3 and I'm quite pleased to say the least. The new design is gorgeous and complements my TV set perfectly. The beauty of the exterior is only outdone by the elegance of the new user interface. It's just as simple (if not more so) as my old player but much faster and more dynamic. I can quickly scroll through all of my channels without losing immediate access to other key features such as search. Lastly, the remote control headphone jack in this model is brilliant. My roommates and I have opposite schedules which made it hard to watch late at night with the sound on. Now I can watch my shows without keeping them awake! Just a phenomenal product overall. I highly recommend it.
Pros: Built in Wi-Fi, Compact, Great value, Easy to set up, Easy to use, High quality picture
