Simple and easy to use !

We had direc tv before and now we have cable, but not all the programs or channels that we wanted, so we bought the Roku 3. We have more of the channels that we want and it is very easy to operate ! I would recommend this product to anyone who has internet and wishes to have more choices in their viewing. It could be an alternate to cable or satelite !

So worth the money

I brought the RoKu3 just to see if it worth it or not. It is worth every penny. Since I purchased the RoKu3 I was able to reduce my cable bill almost 75%. I am planning on turning my cable off and just use my RoKu3.

good content is not free, tedious menus

I returned this after 1 week of use. I discovered that the thousands of channels seemed to consist of repetitive content and YouTube videos. Anything that was worth watching required additional fees, something that is very well hidden in all the reviews. I found the menu system tedious to use as there was no alphabetical listing feature.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Easy to use and setup.

This adds a whole new dimension to entertainment with a fantastic picture, that's easy to use and setup. A plug and play, stand alone product. On the downside is the Netflix search feature because the movies are not numbered is sequence in a list. Also many movies appear in several different categories.

It works, but...

I like the fact that Roku allows me to pick and choose what I want to watch, when I want to watch it, but I have had several problems with the device completely freezing up on certain channel, and I've had sound and video clarity problems with other channels. Perhaps those issues are channel specific, but it seems to me that Roku device itself should have better controls over preventing and/or fixing them. Roku does not! I also don't like the fact that many channels (including Amazon) advertise themselves as being "free" or "free with a subscription" (which is NOT free), but yet they charge you by the episode to watch certain shows....most of which are popular. That's not free at all. And finally, the truly free channels, like PBS, Smithsonian, History, etc.....good like trying to find a program that is more than just a 2-3 minute excerpt. What's the point of them having channels if everything you want to watch is only 3 minute snippets? Teasers!!! Complete waste of time and channel space! Long story short, I like Roku because it let me "cut the cord" and save money, but by no means is it perfect. Lots of flaws...with the device itself and mostly with the channel offerings.

An Actual Upgrade

I owned the first Roku for about 4 years. Very happy with it. I was given the Roku 3 and have enjoyed the upgrade. The Roku3 streams a lot faster and having earphones is a nice touch.The only thing I don't like is how long it stays on after you shut your TV off.
