Great Product!

Has it all! Very fast, huge number of apps, supports Plex, and the menu is very intuitive. Only negative is that it does not support custom DNS. It is hard-wired to Google, 8.8.8.8. Other popular products support custom DNS, but that that is not a deal breaker. Savvy users can till choose their own DNS if they have the right router, supporting static routing. Great box. Other than the DNS it is a 5 star product.

Almost perfect, needs more support for local media

I know this isn't meant for a local player, but it can play most movies, but still lacks support for widely used formats. It only supports MKV with H.264 encoding, but not MKV with mpeg2 which is what raw DVD is. To overcome this, you have to encode the movie to MKV or mp4 (H.264), frustrating and time consuming if you have a lot of kids DVD backups they want to watch. I use DSVideo app from Synology since I have their NAS. All my movies have been ripped to it and I have been having to convert my raw MKVs as well as my avi's in order for Roku to play them. AVI not supported I get, but why not mpeg2? Like I said, almost perfect, still worth getting for ease of use for my children. Also, no ability to turn off annoying ads on the home screen. If I want it, I will go look for it. Kind of frustrating the I purchase something only to have it be a portal for advertisements for Roku. It's OK to display those ads within the apps that play them, but not on the home screen.

There is a slight learning curve with the Roku 3 because of the shear volume of play option. Once you have entered some codes and master a few shortcuts, You will be telling everybody just how cool you are for buying a Roku 3.

Purchased the Roku 3 a month ago, I like the features, but when I pause a show for more that five minutes I am unable to play back the show, have to restart the Roku.
