I have to tell you that when transcoding/streaming using Plex on the 3, I was expecting a performance boost, but NOT that much of a boost! Streaming over hard wired cable at 100 mbps is incredible. Makes the 2 look like a paperweight. This is the best multimedia investment I have made for the home entertainment center.
***NOTE*** I have made a significant investment into storage and am hosting Plex on a proper server. If your server is garbage, the client can be excellent, but it wont matter. The 3 was the nail in the coffin - the component I was waiting for.... now if the Plex team could just make the app pretty...

My husband KNOWS that I'm one your greatest enthusiast and salesperson in our area. I have told family, friends, neighbors, strangers at stores, blogs....etc. I'm asking networks to add this to their programming. Many viewers are asking for the changes ROKU provides. Thank you!
Pros: Many Choices, Improved Audio/Video, Fast Setup, Simple Controls, Attractive Design, Fewer Commercials, Pausing Shows On My Time

The Roku 3 was easy to hookup but after it performed the initial mandatory update, the unit failed to reconnect using either the wireless or the ethernet port. Amazon promptly sent a replacement unit, but the exact same problem happened again. I returned the replacement unit and opted for a Roku 2XS and have had absolutely no problems with it. I would have much rather had the Roku 3 though. As a techie and early adoptor, friends and business associates often turn to me for advice. Unfortunately I cannot recommend Roku 3 since from my experience it was not able to reliably establish an online connection. ROKU: If you'd like me to help you beta test and provide suggestions for improvement I would be glad to assist.
Pros: Attractive Design
Cons: No Connectivity
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

My husband installed our Roku 3 device at the end of January 2014. I wanted to get this device mainly for the purpose of trying out Netflix Streaming. I have explored the various options available on Roku. PROS: It's fairly easy to use. In addition to the movie rental services, I was happy to see free workout sessions available as well as obtaining Internet news. CONS: While using Netflix, we have experienced interrupted service several times which was very frustrating. Bringing up the workout menu was also slow sometimes. The design of the remote could be improved as I find it slippery sometimes when trying to click on the * (home) button.

Just LOVE my new Roku 3! My preferred choice for watching videos and playing games. The setup process is quite simple even for someone like me who usually shies away from setting things up (I often ask someone to do it for me). The selection screen is very easy to navigate. The screens are in common sensical and logical order. I LOVE the fact that the remote has an earphone plug (earphones included that fit very comfortably) that delivers clear sound. This feature saves me from having to buy wireless earphones (which cost almost as much as the Roku 3!) to listen to the TV without bothering anyone else in the house. The remote also doubles as a gaming control that controls your curser by simply pointing toward the screen!! I highly recommend the Roku 3. Loads of fun! Thanks Roku!!! Keep up the wonderful work!
Pros: Great value, Easy to set up, Compact, Easy to use, Video selection, High quality picture, Earphone On Remote, Reliability, Built in Wi-Fi

Was skeptical at first but did try this to replace Cable TV. (also added antenna to receive local OTA channels) Worked right out of the box. Contacted support (e-mail) to ask for assistance in resolving intermittent earphone sound problems and too much buffering. Prompt response and helped me with suggestions to adjust my router wifi settings. Problems resolved. Was impressed enough to purchase a 2nd unit for bedroom TV. Would recommend to anyone wanting to replace cable
Pros: Improved Audio/Video, Simple Controls, Attractive Design, Fast Setup, Free Movies Thru Amazon P

I initially had a jailbroke Apple TV 2 with Plex installed. Due to the lack of developer updates and it's very BETA feel, I decided to give the Roku 3 a try. It supports a full developer's version of Plex. This was my primary focus over the Apple TV and other media players. The problem is, the Apple TV 2 is much cleaner than the Roku 3. The app interaction is a lot better on the ATV2. For instance, the way Netflix and Hulu present media on the Roku is kind of clunky and limited. Anyhow, since my primary use is Plex, I love it. Don't get me wrong, you can still watch all the same shows as the ATV, but finding them is a bit difficult on the Roku.
Pros: Fast Setup, Simple Controls, Easy To Add To Network, Attractive Design, Minimalist Interface
Cons: Slow And Choppy Gui

Frustration in a small box

My negative comments apply only to a wi-fi connection. An ethernet wired connection probably has none of the problems wi-fi users experience. There are frequent interruptions of a blank screen making it necessary to pull the plug and start over, or just wait. Other times a perfect viewing experience with not a hint of trouble. It cannot be depended upon and has spoiled many a time set aside for a pleasant diversion. Entering your email and password on initial setup is maddening as it requires selecting letters one by one with the remote. Needs serious improvement.
