Roku vs Apple TV

I have both a Roku and Apple TV. The Apple TV, on a technological level, smokes the Roku in just about every way. So why I continue to use the Roku more? pRon, or to be more precise, that anyone/anywhere can make channels for the Roku. Anyone can get H B O G O , but try getting Fire-TV or Video-box on the Apple platform. Since it will probably never happen, I'm keeping my Roku.
Philosophically, the Roku is a much better platform.

I brought this thing about 2 or 3 months ago. I have a friend with the google version and I believe his to be the superior brand. He has more options and far less hassle with the control and operations of his streamer. I am stuck with this version now but I am not satisfied at all.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Usually, there is a period of buyers remorse when getting new hardware until you get it going. Roku installation and subsequent use had none of those issues. Plug and play, no delay!

Nice unit, couple small bugs

We've had this unit for a couple months, I guess. We really like the small package, small and easy/simple remote, yet it is full of features. We have experienced a total freeze-up of the unit on several occasions, a simple power-cycle took care of it, but it keeps happening, maybe 1-2/month. So far we are making sure we back completely out of Netflix, out to a main Roku menu prior to turning off the TV, seems to alleviate the issue. Out other concern is inconsistent sound. We have 3 big issues with sound: 1) sound is horribly out of sync with the video, 2) no sound at all, 3) sound cuts in and out, sometimes for as much as an hour before settling in. Our setup is wireless at 20-30 megs/sec, Roku is 18 feet from the router in the same room, and all we watch is Netflix, yet Netflix comes in fine on our laptops. Sometimes backing out to the main menu clears everything up, sometimes a power cycle is required, and on rare occasions there is nothing we can do to correct these issues. For perspective, over 90% of the time our experience of our Roku is fantastic. It might be nice if we could power cycle the unit from the remote, but in the meantime we are still testing to determine whether returning to the main menu prior to shutting down every single time resolves these issues. We are also going to sign up for additional services besides NetFlix to see if these issues carry over to those other services as well. To summarize, it's a minor annoyance with a workable solution on an otherwise excellent product. The quirks I have described *may* be created through our use or through Netflix. I need further testing before I can blame our Roku device. My above issues are our *experience* while using Roku, not necessarily the fault of Roku. Additionally, some friends with Rokus have not seen out issues, so to be fair we continue to strongly recommend your devices!

PROBLEM WITH STREAMING

I DO LIKE MY ROKU 3 BUT HAVE ONE PROBLEM WITH IT. I NOTICE THAT SOME OF THE CHANNELS I HAVE ADDED (FOR INSTANCE LIFETIME) THAT WHEN VIEWING A VIDEO IT KEEPS RELOADING ESPECIALLY AFTER GOING TO A COMMERCIAL ON A PROGRAM. OTHER THAN THAT I DO LIKE THE FACT THAT THERE ARE CHANNELS I CAN ADD THAT I COULDN'T ADD TO MY ORIGINAL ROKU HD.

Great Features For the Most Part

The main reason I bought the Roku is because it claims to offer HBOGo... I say claims, mainly because it's not a matter of having the app, but also having approval of the cable company you get HBO from. Comcast for example, does NOT! I think that Roku either needs to get this sorted, or at the least have this info listed on their site so that other people don't waste their time and money.
